BAD ANXIETEY FROM DOCUMENTRY
Calm down!!! A lot of that stuff they show on TV is so exaggerated. I'm 40 years old and I can remember several times the world was supposed to end and a lot of people would get scared. The truth is, no one knows. It might or might not happen in our lifetime, but in the meantime I'm not going to worry about it. And I don't want you to either.
Do you have the program? I recommend listening to the relaxation tape, or maybe listen to some peaceful music. That helps me calm down when I'm nervous.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I used to have problems with the "Doomsday" stuff. As I look back on my childhood, I can see that focusing on my fear of the end was a diversion from the abuse that was really going on in my family. The last time I had a problem was a few months ago when I watched the Nicolas Cage movie that I didn't know would be so much about the end of the world. I thought it would be like his others where it ended well. Well, don't watch that one. In fact, it ended up being a challenge for me because as a child I saw one time on Ripley's Believe It Or Not about the Sun becoming a Super Nova in 4.5 million years, but I thought it could happen suddenly, and so I would stare at the sun as a child and when it got big at Sunset, I would freak out. My parents never tried to understand why I was so afraid, and I don't know how they let me suffer like that without an explanation. A little girl in the beginning of the Nick Cage movie is staring at the sun, so, I should have known to stop the movie then, but I still thought it would turn out well, but it didn't.
So, how did I cope with all of my Dooms Day stuff and seeing a movie I didn't mean to see?
First of all, and I'm not trying to influence you but just sharing what helps me, my religious beliefs come into play. I am a Christian who believes that the point of my relationship with Christ is to focus on His love for me and my love for Him and to love others. Although I believe in a healthy fear and reverance for God-meaning that He did create this world with power that I don't understand, a loving God does talk of end of times a little bit, but only in a way that lets us know that sharing God's love with others is important. I don't believe in a God who uses fear to manipulate, and I don't believe in a God who says, "The world's going to end! Run for your lives! There's nothing you can do, so just cower in fear!" So, having a loving relationship with God lets me let go of nonsense put out by others just to scare sensitive people for dramatic purposes and publicity. Again, I even shy away from Christians and/or churches if they spend way too much time talking about the end of times and scaring people. The focus should never be the end, but on life and loving and on a relationship with God.
People have been afraid of the end of the world from the beginning of time. It may help to focus on all of the irrational fears that populations of people had that have been majorly disproven. For example, people thought the world was flat and that you could sail off the edge of it! Or, Pegans thought that they had to have a festival in December to keep the Sun from running away from the earth! I know we've come far in time, but people still have irrational fears. We don't know everything. Also, I found out later in college long after my fear had subsided that the Sun and Moon actually aren't bigger when setting and rising. It's just an optical illusion! If you put your thumb up and cover up the sun or moon at any point in the sky, your thumb will completely cover it no matter what, so it never really changes size! So, an optical illusion was causing me hell!
Also, get the facts. After the scare from the Nicolas Cage movie, I looked up solar flares on the internet, and although there were some uneducated people acting like that could happen, there was a rational scientist who explained how the world could Not end by a solar flare. Only do this if you are in the right place and willing to ONLY listen to the people who's point is to calm you down with facts. Don't do it if you are going to pay attention to people purposely trying to scare you.
Like the previous poster is saying, be very wary of movies, books, people, etc., who are trying to manipulate you by fear. Who are these people who made this film? Why do you believe them? Why are you giving your power over to people you don't know? Who made them the authority for your life? Set up some boundaries, and get mad at the director that made this movie by not thinking about untruths anymore! Don't give those involved the satisfaction of making you freak out. You are smarter than that, and you don't have to believe and shouldn't believe everything you read and hear.
We have tornados where I live, and I moved here ten years ago, and it was horribly frightening. I didn't have all the facts. I think in certain conditions, when the weather is bad, I need factual information to do the best I can to protect myself. That doesn't mean that I need to jump at every thunder storm though, and I don't appreciate people who over react by not knowing the facts about the weather. I don't think people who ignore the weather either are right. The answer is to be informed with facts and to make rational decisions. It's not to ignore the weather because you have absolutely no control, and it's not to run around like a chicken with your head cut off at every rumble of thunder.
There's no rational reason for you to believe the world is ending because some one made a manipulative film because they wanted to use fear to get you to watch their film for publicity. In fact, it's just a diversion for you to think about instead of focusing on the wonderful life that God has given you that He wants you to LIVE and ENJOY:)!
