My mother was just diagnosed with alztheimer's
She is 52 years old. Alztheimer's is very difficult to diagnose accurately without an autopsy so there is a chance this is a mistake. Regardless, something is clearly wrong with her. She has been very forgetful, a constant worrier for years, spacey, paranoid at times, and her work performance has been suffering. The doctor she saw last Monday did his residency in Alztheimer's so I tend to believe what he says even though we will go for another opinion. Now on to my concerns. There are many, but I would like to touch on the possible genetic connection with this disease. My mom and I have very similiar personalities and habits. As I said before, she worries alot, has high anxiety, and is paranoid about some things. I am 29 and display alot of the same characteristics as she did around 29. I know people with anxiety/depression/OCD problems tend to self-diagnose, but learning of my mom's condition on Monday is a major source of concern for me and my own health. Thoughts?

Hey Tigerman,
I can understand your concerns on this. I have had 3 great Aunts who also had this. They were all siesters. Not trying to scare you. I have actually worried alot that this could be passed down to me as well. I have alot of family on my mothers side who are very nervous people. If it was not for my mother opening up about her on struggles(anxiety&depression) plus her telling me about other family members...I would have thought something was very wrong with me. I'm just glad that I have this program now and know there is hope. I don't think there is anything wrong with finding/searching/looking for answers. If it is something that concerns you. I would ask your mother's doctor about it, if you go with her to the apointment. I believe knowledge is power. Take care and I hope everything goes well with your mom

Hey Tigerman,
My mother and three of my aunts (her sisters) had Alzheimer. This disease is one of my many causes for anxiety. I am afraid I will be another member of the family with this disease. I am 52, and to hear that she might be affected by it scares me. I am 55. I also realize that in my aunts' time they cooked with a lot of aluminum. This is suppose to to be a cause for this disease. In my life time, aluminum was a thing of the past. I would get a second opinion, and as Karenleigh go with her. I also have some the same problems similar to your mother's. Good luck. Maybe this is just anxiety and depression.
