I have achieved everything I want in life,I've discovered that you can achieve anything and everything you want in life with a little determination, I've got all the material posessions I ever wanted, I've got the house I wanted, I've got the family and kids I wanted, I've got a well paid job but I still don't feel happy and content, Its like an annoying itch I can't scratch, you think for instance, right if I get that new job i'll be happy but you then get that job and you find that doesn't cure the itch so to speak, you just spend life floating around in a state of frustration unsure about what you actually want.
Could this be depression? Its the only thing I can think of although I wouldn't say I felt depressed, can you relate to this?
Does Depression Leave You Feeling Unsatisfied With Life?
Hi Pear,
It sounds like you have all the trappings of success and fit the mold of living the 'American Dream'. You sound like a goal-oriented person who is energetic and driven. Now you are taking stock and asking yourself "is this all there is?" You are probably used to looking at problems in the direct sense. You sound able to identify problem areas and find logical solutions for them and resolve them. In this case, however, I think you may be looking in the wrong direction to find the kind of fulfillment you seek. I think you are seeking a kind of personal satisfaction that does not involve material success. Keep in mind that it's not the job, the house, the family or the money that makes us happy. There are more dimensions to us than the physical that we must explore to find a balanced way of living. I think that it is in that balance where we find our true satisfaction. Of course I am alluding to our mental, emotional and spiritual realms. The only advice I can give you is to follow your gut on this. It may be time to do some soul searching and take stock of what you feel may be lacking in your circumstance and causing this restlessness. Best of luck in your search.

Could it be depression? Yes, it could, but it could also be other things in life. For me, depression is something that creates sadness and a sense of dissatisfaction at its mild point. When it is severe, it creates complete apathy and exhaustion and then there are varying degrees in between.
Think about 'life'. Not just your life, but life as a whole. There is more to it than what we accumulate. So what is it you are looking for? Do you have any hobbies? Do you volunteer? Like Debbie said, are you a follower of God? There are a wide range of things that might be what you need to move you past the next 'thing' and into a more satisfying life.
Once I worked through my depression, I began to see what I needed to change and how I needed to look at things to live a satisfying fulfilled life. You know what the answers are - you just need help pulling them out.

Good luck!

Hi Pear,
I often feel this way. Like I have all the potential to be happy, but why aren't I? I've realized that HAVING things is only part of the puzzle, and APPRECIATING and LIVING IN THE MOMENT of things brings about the satisfaction. If you don't take the time to do fun things with your wife and kids, or take on interesting and challenging projects at work and really LIVE in this wonderful life you've created, then it's just accumulation. You've accumulated STUFF, but stuff doesn't make HAPPINESS. It's what you do with the stuff you've been given/made for yourself that makes the satisfaction.
Good luck to you!
