I've gotta say that frequent and regimented prayer may help with this immensely.

I am reading a thought-provoking book called "Rules for Prayer" which goes over the prayer rituals of a myriad of great Christian leaders and teachers throughout history.

One thing I'm learning is that many of them led a chaste life, and many prayed religiously either 5 or 7 set times throughout the day as different passages in the scripture indicate.

Some of them prayed through some Psalms scriptures, while others prayed on different subject matter.

One example of William Law (1686-1761) was this:

1. Morning - praise & thanksgiving
2. 9:00 AM - Humility
3. Noon - Universal love and intercession
4. 3:00 PM - Conforming to God's will
5. Evening - self-examination and confession

Lancelot AndrewEs' (1555-1626) ritual was this:

1. Morning before daybreak - Mark 1:35
2. Morning watch - Psalms 63:6 AND 130:6
3. The third hour (9:00 AM) - Acts 2:15
4. The sixth hour (noon) - Acts 10:9
5. The ninth hour (3:00 PM) - acts 3:1
6. Eventide - Genesis 24:63
7. Night - Psalm 143:1

John Calvin (1509-1564) suggested this:

1. When we awake in the morning
2. Before we begin our daily work
3. When we sit down for a meal
4. When we have eaten
5. When we go to bed

Some of it may seem over regimented, but I'm sure their rewards were great.

They all really prayed so differently, some of them prayed on different subject matter, while others prayed on scripture. One thing they all seemed to have in common was that they started out with prayer and ended up with prayer every day.

I have also heard of some people who have dutifully memorized scripture verses which have helped with anxiety and OCD. We went to a conference where a couple stood up and recited an enormous amount of scripture right off the top of their heads.

All this to say, it keeps the mind busy. When the mind is idle or not occupied for a solid reason, those thoughts are going to come and go a lot more easily.

Also it can drastically change one's spiritual life from being a believer with a prayer when time allows, to actively pursuing and praising the Holy One on a busy and obligatory basis.

Just some thoughts and interest on the subject. I don't know anything about anyone's prayer life here, but I do know that my own is not as regimented as I would like it to be.

James, do not give these negative thoughts any weight!!! Become an observer of your thoughts!!! Watch as they float lazily by you!!!

The mind is a very tricky thing!!! Just like the pink elephant studied proved!!! If you tell yourself not to think of a pink elephant, then, you will think of a pink elephant!!!

Don't try to wish these thoughts away!!! Just know that God is in control of everything!!!

You are NOT what YOU think, YOU are YOUR actions!!!! YOUR thoughts can not harm you in any way!!!

God looks upon your heart!!! That is where He sees the blood of His precious Son, Jesus Christ!!!

Thoughts are just thoughts, nothing more!!! We can think anything, but, does that make it true???? Absolutely not!!!

You are going to be just fine James!!! Do not allow Satan to try and play tricks on you by telling you that you are doomed by your thoughts!!!

In fact, do not believe any thought he places within your mind, for he is a liar and the father of them!!!

Satan cannot harm you with these "negative" thoughts!!! Do not believe his lies, and do NOT give these thoughts any weight at all!!!

Replace these thoughts with the truth!!! If God be for you, then, who can be against you!!! Amen and Amen!!!

If you didn't care what God thought, then, you would not be obsessing over these thoughts!!!

You are a "very unique" individual in the eyes of God Almighty!!!

You are going to be just fine!!! God Bless You James!!!

James - I am right with you; the cuss words, the wicked thoughts all to our Lord, Jesus, Mary and all our Beloved. They're terrifying!!! I go to bed each night knowing I will awke to hearing them again first thing in the morning when I am so grateful for another day. I say, "Thank you, Dear Lord, for granting me this new day." - then BAM, the hateful words scream through my mind. I feel so horrible and guilty, like I'm never going to feel ultimate peace....May God be with us always, I believe we are saved! Much love and prayers......

Hi James, I prayed for you yesterday. Please keep us updated.

Try to tell yourself that it's just a thought when the thought does happen.

It's just a silly thought, and even if you can laugh at the thought (not laugh at yourself, but the thought, because you know how ridiculous it is) that will help to not give it any weight.

We all know they are just thoughts, right? The more you trivialize it the better.

Try to think of a cartoon Jesus coming along with a needle and bursting the thought bubble.

Or one of the disciples blowing a shofar (ram's horn) at the thought and scaring the thought away.

Blessings.

I know that I shoudn't think about what I am thinking, when my Lord is brought into the picture it really eats at me, I don't feel guilty as I once did, but I can't stand this, It Stinks!!!!! I just don't understand how I could Love Jesus and have evil thoughts of him at the same time. Sometimes I avoid hearing his name because I know the thoughts will come, but then I have to hear his name to try to overcome.
And the Lord said evil thoughts proceed from the heart and I hope this isn't my heart but I am thinking them, my thoughts also go against other people and my wife who I love dearly. It so much to have on you when you hate to talk about it, even though I have. Please pray!!!!!

James,
Please try and not give these thoughts any weight, since, you are not your thoughts!!!

Jesus, Himself was tempted, but, He was perfect and did not act out on his temptations!!!

Satan places these thoughts into your mind, but, he cannot touch your soul, if you are saved (born again)!!! That is a good thing, huh????

You are not your thoughts, James, you are your actions!!! It is Satan's job to attack your mind, but, he cannot touch your soul...Period!!!

When these thoughts pop into your mind, then, please do place up that "stop sign" in your mind's eye!!! Replace that "negative" thought with the truth!!! The truth is that if you love Jesus, then, you must know HIM, since, it is impossible to love someone whom you don't know!!!

I believed in Jesus before I got saved, even all of my life!!! I knew Him, when he saved me from my sins 22 years ago, and I have known HIM ever since then!!!

There is a difference between believing in your mind there is a Jesus and actually knowing HIM!!!!

James, you need to be "Still and Know He is God"

James, it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles a man, because this comes from the heart!!!

Of course, we are none perfect, the Bible says..No not one!!!

If you didn't love Jesus and your wife, then, I don't even believe for one moment that Satan would be placing such "negative" thoughts into your mind!!!

Jesus knows that You love HIM!!! Nothing is hidden from HIS face!!! He sees your heart and He loves you more than you could ever begin to imagine!!!

Here is a video that I think will help you James!!! I will be praying for you, although, I feel with my whole heart that you are just "obsessing" over nothing!!!!

Please watch this video and have a wonderful day filled with blessings from on HIGH!!!

Here is the video and song... Look How Big My God Is

I pray this song blesses every single soul that listens to it!!!

Have a beautiful "blessed" day!!!
