Heart Palpitations....ugh!
Okay so this is my first week and I could really use some advise. I've had every heart test in the book and been to the ER more times than I can count for heart palpitiations. This is where my heart flutters or feels like it's flip flopping or skipping a beat. Then I also have had racing heart where it pounds out of my chest. Every doctor I have been too told me that it's anxiety--including my heart doctor. I just don't understand because sometimes it will happen throughout the day (not just during a panic epsiode) and at those times I won't be thinking about anything that is stressing me out. Usually when I have panic episodes, I have the racing heart not the palpitations. It's when I'm cool, calm and collected that my heart starts skipping a beat or flip flopping. AND THEN I get anxiety about it and start freaking out. I'm at my wits end. I'm so tired and I feel like I am going insane. I feel like there is something wrong with my heart that the doctors aren't catching. Can anyone give me any advise?
Anxiety is living in the future, depression is living in the past.
Hi, Jaime!
Like you, I have also had every test in the book, and been told it's anxiety/stress by both the cardiologist and the ER doctor... But I have found out on my own that it many times happens because of acid reflux (which can have many odd symptoms, and heartburn is not necessarily one of them).
Also, food intolerance (which in turn creates digestive symptoms and acid reflux...) can cause it for me.
Shallow or 'wrong' breathing patterns can cause it, as well, and you can do that even if you think you're happy and relaxed, just because it's a pattern from anxiety.
If I were you, I'd use the breathing techniques so often that it becomes a habit, and I'd try to eat very carefully (clean, organic foods - fish and lamb or chicken/turkey, vegetables, fruit, no soda, caffeine or sugar, only sea salt and herbs for spicing, etc.) and see if that helps. I'd also try antacids - the Rolaid Softchews are my favorite. I used them when I woke up in the middle of the night with a racing heart and anxiety... worked every time! After I changed my diet, I hardly ever have this happen anymore. If I eat something I react to during the day, I'll take to chewable C-vitamins 500mg and the symptoms go away in 10 minutes.
These are easy and side-effect-free things you can try to see if you can help yourself to feel better naturally!
