anxiety and exercising
Does anyone experience anxiety while exercising? I do brisk walking and jogging and monitor my breathing when jogging but from time to time i get an attack and hyperventilate. Any suggestions as to what to do in this situation? I do not want to quit exercising again and have finally finished the program.

I have anxiety nearly all of the time. I just started eating healthier and excercising. Instead of a candy bar, have a peice of fruit or cheese and crackers. Eat lots of meat and good vegetables. I try not to eat too much chocolate and bad snacks, I do yoga almost everyday which helps with breathing. Yoga canhelp you learn to relax.
I remember when I first started exercising I had some anxiety over wether or not I was pushing myself too hard. I started out slow and slowly worked my way up. When I started working out on the elliptical and could really feel my heart beating i would keep on telling myself how good I was doing and how strong my body was and that this was making it even stronger. Which is the truth. I think if you come up with your own mantra and keep on repeating it to yourself as you work out, it'll help a lot. I know it did for me. Happy exercising

I think it's really an issue of reframing how you're feeling. Exercise increases our heart rate, blood pressure, makes us sweat, etc. Physical feelings that are very similar to anxiety attacks. There are times when I exercise that I have to remind myself that these are normal feelings when exercising and not let my mind race with fear.
