Hi all,
I guess I'm not really "new". I have suffered from anxiety and depression for several years now, but I just found this site and thought someone could help me. My panic had been under control with Zoloft, but I felt it hadn't been working well over the last few months, and my dr is now having me wean off the Zoloft and I'm taking 5 mgs Lexapro. I hear it should work well, but I am so scared right now. I can't even make it into work because I am so nauseated and drowsy for most of the day and my depression seems worse. Is this normal while I am in the weaning process? I hope I get better soon. I live all alone and I am just so scared. Please help, if you can.
New and Scared - Just Started Lexapro
I have never taken either of those drugs but I do remember weaning off Xanax and everytime I made a reduction I thought I was coming down with the flu because I would feel nauseated. Finially it dawned on me and once I knew it was just the reduction I could tolerate the feelings better. I too am alone and that can make it harder, too much alone time to think. I have found with the tiredness that if I pushed through it, it would often get better. I hope you have a good relationship with your doctor and can keep in close contact during the process, just hearing that what you are feeling is normal and that it will pass helps a lot.
Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well and that you are frightened. Have you purchased the program? It truly is one of the best investment for people like us who suffer from anxiety/depression. I have been on 250mg of Zoloft, 200 mg of lamictal, and as of last week I no longer have to take klonapin. Going on medication is scary for numerous reasons but if you can trust you doctor and keep him updated on how you are feeling he should be able to make proper evaluations.
One thing I hate about going on medication is that for the first few months you are basically your own experiment. We have to wait and see if one medication works and if it doesn't, try another and the process continues until we find the medicine that works for us. Over the years I have been prescribed zoloft, lexapro, xanax, klonopin, lamictal, cymbalta, celexa....and I think that's about it..it hasn't been an easy ride, but then again..nothing about this condition is "easy." Please keep reminding yourself that you aren't alone, that we are here to talk and help each other through this. When my Doctor weaned me off of medication(s) in the past I did have a tendency to feel queasy and I would get migrains every so often. So I think what you are feeling is because of the change in medication and it takes time for the body to adjust and fully absorb these medications.
I know it's easier said then done, but do your best to hang in there. Relief is on the way and lexapro may just be the right medication for you! I am here for you.
