SUGAR
I do find a connection between sugar and depression. When I am depressed, I crave sugar. It makes me feel better, temporarily but can trigger feeling worse about myself for my lack of control... Depression hurts and its hard to look at so we find other ways to distract ourselves. If you see a connection for you, its real but it may be a reminder that there is something else that needs your attention. Good luck with this. I know how hard it is to lay off the sugar. I'm still struggling with it.
Sugar, yes, when it's refined and mixed with fats - cake, cookies, ice cream, candy bars, baked goods, etc.
Fresh fruit will give you natural high and no depression!!! Try fruit meals, eat until full and satisfied you will feel wonderful!

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.

Keep fat intake low - excess fat in the blood stream causes sugars to rise, causing many blood sugar disorders. We need sugar/carbs to function. The best sugars you can eat are fresh fruit.

Maithana,
What kind of hypoglycemia do you have? If you have reactive hypoglycemia, you shouldn't need sugar... if you keep your carb and sugar intake on an even level. If you get high insulin and adrenalin output as a result of rapidly increased blood sugar, you would just be continuing the roller-coaster by adding more sugar. The best way is to get ahead of it and make sure your blood sugar doesn't go up in the first place. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia 25 years ago and I have had great results with a low-sugar diet and frequent, small meals - when I do it...
If your blood sugar gets low, try a glass of milk - it's the fastest and most gentle way I know to get your blood sugar up. Fruit juices are too intense sugary for me - they can even give me a headache.

I just reviewed lesson 5 on diet & exercise and one of the things mentioned was about eating protein in the morning for energy and reducing refined sugars. I know that this is key for me. About a year ago I tried the Southbeach Diet and the first 2 weeks you go off all sugar and caffeine. It was hard but I felt so much better at the end of 2 weeks I couldn't believe it so I am doing that eating plan again. I got off track over the December holidays and it took lesson 5 to make me realize how bad I felt and make that connection of how sensitive I am to sugar. Keep working on the good eating. You can do it! We can do it!
