Sinus Infection or something else... Worried again...
Sorry to be so negative in my title. I was doing pretty good, but I am starting to slip... As in some of my other posts, I have been fighting left temple pain, eye pain, and pain above my left eye and cheek. My temple area is tender, and above eye, toward the nose is tender. I was given antibiotics, one week run in April, waited two weeks with no improvement.
She started me again on antibiotics, the last week of April, one week worth. Waited two weeks again, no improvement. Temple and eye got really sore/red/bloodshot and started to get a little blood in my nose. Went back to the Dr. last week, and I was a little worried. Different Dr. this time , regular doc was on vacation. He looked at me, and said sinus infection. Started a 30 day run of Cipro, Flonase, Mucus pills, and Nelly bottle. He said we are going to make sure that it is a infection, and get it if it is. If it isn't gone in 30 days we need to have a CT scan to find out what it going on in there..
Well, that was it for me.. Now, I have started that downward trend, of thinking that it is something terminal... His statement was to see if it was Viral, Fungal or what... Me, I think that it is something terminal now... My legs always tingle, burn a little, fuzzy right eye, and I have neck problems and it is always so tight, and I clench my teeth. I am confused as to the cause and effect.. which one causes the other. I am diagnosed general anxiety disorder, and take wellbutrin. I think that alone dries my eyes out so much.
I am 42, and I don't think that I have ever really had a sinus infection... Do my symptoms actually add up to that? Both Docs seem to think so, but they can't really see up in there too far. I have been on the antibiotics now since last Friday, and the Flonase type stuff. I don't really see any improvement.. How long does it take to work? I don't have any discharge really.. In fact, really dry and sore, not runny.
Does this sound like anyone else sinus infections? Or something more sinister... I wish I could get a grip on worrying about it.. It has been going on since beginning of March. But I waited to see the Dr. for a month. Now I have been fighting it for two months. How long do sinus infections hang on??

Hey there---take a deep breath! I am also someone who jumps to terminal illness over every little bump, ache, etc. It does sound like a sinus infection, and I think the fact that two separate docs have said so should be reassuring to you.
My sister has had terrible headaches almost daily for months, as well as the occasional bloody nose. Her doc sent her for a head/brain CT, which was scary, and turns out it is not an infection but just sinus issues in general (apparently shaped funny or something, just a variation of normal). So not much to do, she takes amitryptaline at night and headaches have ceased quite a bit. Sinuses cause a lot of funny issues, they are in your cheeks, nasal cavity, and eyes/forehead, so can cause issues in all of those areas. Keep us posted on how you are doing but DON'T panic and stay off from google as it is not your friend!!! (I do that to myself all the time). you are FINE!

Cinny...This sounds like sinus problems to me...You may have a nasal polyp, or something, blocking your sinus cavities!!!
I had a very severe sinus infection years ago, and it took me the entire summer to recover from it!!!
I took antibiotics, as well as, as used Nasonex spray, and steroids...
In my case, the doctor did seem to think I may have a nasal polyp, but, I was never checked for it, and I am fine, now!!!
I am sure this is your sinuses, since, you have every single symptom that I had!!!
Don't worry, be happy...You are going to be fine!!!
Have a great night!!!

I have had chronic sinus problems my whole life, and I'm sure you just have a sinus infection. They can sometimes take quite awhile to clear up, but you will get better. You'll be fine.
One thing that really works for me with the dry linings of my nose (the nasal sprays and such do dry them out) - I put a little bit of Neosporin on the end of a Q-Tip and swirl it around the nostril. You don't need to go very far in, just the edge. It will work its way up and keep your nose from feeling so tight and dry. I usually do it morning and night when I'm dealing with a sinus infection or a cold.
Moist heat really helps. I have a "bed buddy" (a thing that has some sort of rice in it) that I can heat in the microwave for a couple of minutes, and then I just lay it across my eyes. It relieves a lot of the pressure.
Good luck! Try not to worry - nothing dangerous is going on here.

One thing that really messes with your head is when you have a sinus infection- sh*t just seems weird and you feel like you are in your own dream bubble and everyone is looking at you like you are crazy or something.
I'm sure it is just that- but also take comfort in knowing we live in a society where there seems to be a quick fix for everything, including medical problems.

wow.. Thanks for the response guys.. I guess I need to trust in the Dr.s a little more. I do not Google anything anymore! hehe.. I haven't for a long time, I learned my lesson there, for sure. In the days before 24 hour news and internet, folks seemed to live a lot less anxiety and stressful lives. They weren't bombarded all day long by disease, death and pharmaceutical commercials! Now, everything I get, is some terminal drama. I hate HA.
And, I listen to the folks in here that have experienced this sort of stuff before too. This sinus thing is new to me, and I guess I am surprised at how long it can hold on.
Hopefully, it will move on, and I will be able to roll my eyes again..
Without them falling out..
Thanks for the support guys, and I will keep plugging along.
The suggestions are great, and letting me know the time lines helps a bunch too!

Just hang in there man!
You are absolutely right- I remember the days before the internet and all those things (and I am not that old!) and there seems to be a TON more stress and anxiety on the world because of all the news and websites that only focus on the bad things going on in the world. How often do you hear a good story about someone helping someone or someone honored for something? The truth is there is more good going on every second of the day than there is bad- yet the bad gets focused and reported on. I choose not to watch that kind of crap anymore because all it does is bring me down- and also gets my mind going crazy about stuff. I think my problem is I think and analyze way too much. So I choose to drown myself in sports

Hi Cinny-
I bought a NeilMed sinus rinse kit at Walgreen's. I'm sure they sell them elsewhere too. It's a plastic bottle and a lid. You fill it to the dotted line with distilled water, heat it in the microwave for about 20 seconds to warm it to body temp. and add the buffered salt solution. Then you shake it up (after the lid is on
) and bend over the sink, put the nozzle into one nostril and squeeze the bottle. Junk will probably come gushing out which is just what you want. In the beginning, nothing may happen because you are moistening all the hard dried gunk around your sinus openings -- the little doors from the drainage tubes into the sinus cavities. But then, you get is loose and it gets out so the germs can't keep multiplying in there.
I was a pharmacist before I had kids and it is pretty normal to take 2-3 weeks of an antibiotic to kill a sinus infection. The blood flow to the area is just not that great, and the only way to get the drug to your sick part is thru the blood stream.
Another great thing about the sinus rinsing is if you have allergies, when you rinse, it's like giving your sinus' a bath and washing all the allergens off so they won't cause you to have a reaction.
I hope you feel better soon.
I also am afflicted with the "terminal" problem. This morning I felt a bit off, but was looking forward to my Pilates class, so I kept moving forward. But-- truthfully, I had to say out loud in my kitchen that it's OK to feel a bit crummy and still continue with my day. A vague head fullness and stomach ick does not equal death. I have no idea what it feels like to be really sick, in fact. I did go work out and wouldn't you know, I felt better about 10 minutes into it. But, if I hadn't, I was prepared to just let myself be sick.

I'd suggest staying away from ALL mucus producing foods, especially wheat and dairy! Even go on a raw diet until things clear up, better yet a juice fast!
If you are eating meat, dairy, wheat or breads you are nursing your symptoms, they are the cause of not only mucus, but inflammation from your body trying to expel the substances.
The meds are only a bandaid, a temporary fix.

If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.

I forgot to tell you Cinny--
Since you have been on several rounds of antibiotics, I'm sure the good helpful bacteria in your gut is pretty wiped out. It would be helpful to you to eat a couple of servings of yogurt with active cultures in it per day or maybe taking probiotic capsules for a while. You can find these at a grocery store probably in a refrigerated case or in more of a health food type of store-- the probiotics I mean.
They will help to recolonize the bacteria you want, reducing the availablity of space for any bad bacteria that are hanging around.
We would tell people that when I worked. Esp. when they were on repeated courses of antibiotics or on a really long one. It helps to prevent the diarrhea from antibiotics.
