I agree this is a whole lotta hype. The only person who died in the US from this wasn't even a resident, they came over from Mexico.

Also to put this into perspective, I read a statistic about the regular flu of 100 people dying a day, this is for the regular flu. You'd probably have better odds at winning the lottery than contracting or dying from this thing that the media is hyping up.

Another thing to think of is staying healthy - flies stay away from clean trash cans - eat healthy food, stay away from refined sugar, junk and fast food, exercise, drink lots of water, eat fresh fruits and veggies, just take care of yourself. Peace of mind is also excellent of your immunity. All good reasons to live a happy and fulfilling life.

P.S. I also want to agree with Luvpiggy that all that antibacterial stuff is the worst thing for your body, it actually makes you so sterile that your resistance goes down to every day bacteria and viruses. Between that and the worry and probably not living a healthy clean lifestyle it's a recipe for disaster. People who use those AB substances all the time are usually asking for it. Don't you wonder why all the homeless people aren't going to the hospitals in droves? They are in contact with many more germs than the average person.

I don't mean to sound like I'm making fun of what could be a serious illness, but someone sent me an email picture about "How swine flu spreads". It showed a pig looking through a fence. On the opposite side of the fence was a toddler, who was licking the pig's snout.

Bevee: Good afternoon. I agree with BookofPsalms because if I watch the news about everything going crasy in this world, my panic goes way up. Watch some of the local news and leave the other news alone. I read my local paper instead so I can select what to read and what to ignore. It is your choice to watch or turn the channel. Do what makes you feel better. I know you can do it.

Hi, Bumps,

Sorry you aren't feeling well. Well, of course it would be more alarming to live in a place that had an outbreak. All you can do is control what you have control over such as following the guidelines of washing your hands frequently, and not exposing yourself to sick people. I also agree that you shouldn't watch the news. I think you know what you need to know about the flu. Just tell your family members to tell you if they hear of anything that has changed that you really need to know.

I know there's an outbreak in your area, but the swine flu is still being said to be the same potency as the regular flu. A researcher studied it and said that its genetic components are not similar the Spanic flu, etc. So far, it has not mutated. Although the one case of death in your state with the Assistant Principal is a little controversial, only those that have had underlying health problems have died.

I still feel like worrying about catching it wears down your immune system and makes you more vulnerable. I think you should focus on fun, relaxing and healthy activities and get as much laughter as possible into your days. I think you should exercise, get plenty of sleep, and eat lots of veggies and fruits and protein.

I'm not a doctor, but it does sound like your symptoms are coming after you worry about getting the flu. If you get a fever, I would definitely go to the doctor and they would test you and if you were positive they would give you tamiflu which would help you. I feel bad for the people that had underlying health conditions that died, but right now, the majority of the people who have swine flu are easily healing from it. You could go to the doctor anyway, but it doesn't sound like you have the flu right now. I think giving yourself a break from worry would be the best thing.

Take care,
luvpiggy

Oh, I'm sorry Bumps. I need to read others' posts better before I respond. If there's not an outbreak in your area, then it's highly unlikely that you have swine flu.

I still recommend not watching the news and focusing on activities that boost your immune system instead of wearing it down with worry about getting a rare condition. I know it's easier said than done, but it can be done:).

hi
i live in england and we have the media blowing this "swine flu" thing out of proportion.
A few yeards back we had a "mad cow disease" epidemic and everybody who ate burgers was going to die well i`m still here and nobody ever talks about it anymore
Then a couple of years ago another epidemic!!! this time "bird flu" everyone was going to die There were a few cases and again nobody mentions the dreaded bird flu again.
Now swine flu!!! guess we`re all going to die again
People have died of swine flu but the majority of them were people who were at risk anyway.
It is just like the normal flu but with a fancy name.
If anyone does contract it then its plenty of fluids and loads of rest and you can bet your bottom dollar you`ll be back to normal in a short while.
On the plus side if we do catch it then we can worry about that and that will take our minds of our anxiety problems
You just keep that smile on your face and dont worry!!!! :-)
