A few years ago I was prescribed this for my headaches, as it is not really used to much as an antidepressant anymore. It worked good to relax my jaw muscles back then and decrease my headache frequency. Well a couple years ago, my anxiety had started, I had really bad headaches and was given amitriptalyne for it and after day three my anxiety was through the roof and my heartrate stayed at 130 for a week. Then 6 months after that, i had a different doctor by that time, and he gave me the same for headaches, so i thought I would try it again. same thing, within 3 days, I was back at the hospital with extreme anxiety and heartrate really really high that would not come down on its own. So, something in the medicine my body no longer liked. That is not to say my experience is the same as others...just thought I would share my story with you/

Just wanted to also comment on amitriptyline. I was prescribed it for headaches for about 6 years. Just recently got off of it because it didn't seem to be helping anymore. They dont really used it for anxiety or depression much anymore because there seems to be better working things available. I'm not sure if your male or female but I was advised if you become pregnant to get off of it immediately because it can cause serious damage. Hope this helps.

I have been taking amitriptyline for 30 years and it actually has helped me considerably, but it is an old drug and does have side effects like weight gain, constipation, and loses its effectiveness resulting in using more. I really don't want to increase usage, but find a way to deal with feelings of anxiety, etc. It helps me sleep and I've always had trouble sleeping for all my life and so did my sister. Amitriptyline actually helped tremendously for 25 years, I was finally sleeping better and handling stresses and some depression.
