Ah--I feel like a kid :). All this snow--I couldn't make it into work. :D

I wanted to know if anyone had experiences with hypnosis. What were your experiences--bad or good?

I ask because I am considering hypnosis as a remedy for negative thinking and a negative work environment. This negative stuff is almost on a daily basis. Yes, I should be happy having a job in this economic climate, but I feel my emotional health is getting damaged because of my negative thinking which is based on the negative and nonsensical stuff at work. I get sad, frustrated, annoyed, tired, have interminent bouts of mild depression, and feeling like I am lost (career-wise). I admit it is my thinking that is making me upset.

I know cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an outstanding treatment. It helped me two years ago with major anxiety about my heart and health. I am considering hypnosis because I am under the impression it is a faster remedy than CBT.

I am looking to remedy this ASAP because I would like to hold on at this job (and not send out my resume) until I take a vacation. I literally have not taken one in almost five years. My wife and I recently discussed going on a four-day (Thursday—Sunday) jaunt to the Virgin Islands but we haven’t pinpointed a possible date because of my father-in-law’s cancer treatment. She takes him for his daily radiation treatment which is almost finished. He thankfully has been doing well. He and my mother-in-law would be involved with the vacation—this is fine by me since I love them both. Part of this vacation would be to have the whole family together before either of my wife’s parents passes.

Once the vacation is over, then I would start sending out my resume.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Charlie,

About 4 years ago I went through a weight loss hypnosis program. It was through a company called Positive Changes. I went to a "class" twice a week and had tapes to listen to at home. Along with that I had personal sessions that were recorded for me to listen to at home. It really worked for me. I lost about 25 pounds and felt great. However, here it is years later and I have gained my weight back due to my anxiety and the medication I am on. I have recently started to listed to them again for the relaxation part of it and if the weight loss happens...great!

I would look into the hypnosis, but keep in mind it's not a one session cure all and it can be expensive. Good luck and let me know how you are doing.

Babbers,

Thanks for reply.

How long between when you first started the hypnosis program and when you lost the weight along with the improved feeling? I realize everyone is different in response to any type of therapy.

I was searching the web over the past couple of days and found four sites that offered downloaded or CD-based hypnosis sessions. Of the four I kept in My Favorites, one really stood out. Besides having pre-made sessions which covered alot of my issues, they also had the option to have sessions taylor-made for your specific situations. I liked this one also because the therapist is licensed and they had the Better Business Bureau icon.

Thanks again. :)

Thanks Henry85,

Thanks.

At this point, I will take even the relaxation.

Hypnosis has its benefits. It helped me to relax but didn't do anything for my panic attacks. Most hypnotherapists seem to want to get you into past life regression to sort out your problems, but I don't believe in reincarnation. CBT is by far more helpful than anything else I've tried.

In answer to your question, I guess I'd have to say it took me about 3-4 weeks before I saw some real improvement.

Good Luck
