Hello everyone! This is my second time going on zoloft. The first time was when I was pregnant with my second child and I had scary thoughts. I weaned off of it back in October 2008 because I was better and then I just started back on Feb. 1, 2009. Yes, I had a relapse. My doc up'ed my dose and it's been a week and 2 days on the 100 mg. I don't have panic attacks but still get scary thoughts from time to time.
Can anyone relate and let me know how long it takes to feel better? Thanks everyone!

Alot of feeling better thanks to Zoloft (and other SSRIs) has to with our individual body chemistry. The earliest can be two weeks. The usual time is 4-6 weeks.

Zoloft was the med my friend who suffered with scary thoughts took and it definitely helped.

Keiko808,

You're welcome. And thank you for asking about him. He's been good regarding the scary thoughts. In 2003 he went for Exposure therapy for the scary thoughts. It was during this therapy session he was on Zoloft.

Therapy and meds are considered to be an excellent way to deal with anxiety and depression. Exposure therapy is considered the gold standard for dealing with scary thoughts. Basically you are getting exposed to the thought, either as a repeated visual or audio version of the thought. The idea is to get used to the scary thought after repeated exposure to it and its accompanying anxiety. As you can imagine this is extremely rough and was done/should be done only with a qualified therapy professional. He's been fine since. In fact when sees a knife he muses to himself how this would have freaked him out 7-8 years ago.
