Can sugar be reduced by half or can you make deserts with artificial sweetners? I appreciate any information. I don't want to feed my anxiety but I like to eat a desert sometimes.

Hey I am not sure but I will ask my mom. She is diabetic and has learned many low sugar recipes. Also I would look at some diabetic recipes they are typically low or substitute sugar recipe.

Hi,

Eleven years ago when I was pregnant with my son, I developed gestational diabetes. There are definitely sugar free and reduced sugar recipes for deserts. The easiest way to to find them would really be just to use google:).

Here's my opinion about sugar. I completely agree that your sugar needs to be balanced, and that it helps with anxiety. However, I am not completely convinced about artificial sweeteners. I used ones that were FDA approved a lot during pregnancy which is allowed, but I regret it. My son has severe autism, and no one knows why the autism rate has grown, so it does make me and other moms paranoid about almost everything that could have been a potential toxin. So, just from my experiences, I am not sold on artificial sweeteners.

Anyway, I do think reducing your sugar is good for your overall health. I do think there are reduced sugar desert options, eventhough I don't like artificial sweetners. I think honey in your tea is healthier than sugar. However, that doesn't mean no sugar at all to me:). For example, if you exercise and eat one desert a day, you are going to burn off the sugar when you exercise. I personally, have one desert a day because I do exercise. I also think a good way to reduce your sugar is to really get off of the soft drinks-which are considered hidden sugars. There was a study that showed that soft-drinks, only drinking one a day, increases a women's risk of developing type two diabetes by a huge amount. So, it's just my advice to look at ways of reducing sugar without completely eliminating it from your diet. I mean, on my diabetes diet, I was allowed some sugar:).

Take care,

i use an herb called stevia to sweeten my iced tea. it is all natural no artificial flavoring. i have never used it to cook with, but i know you can add it to hot liquids and it does not lose its sweetness. if i remember correctly, the lady at the health food store told me that you CAN cook with it. google it to make sure and also to find out the stevia to sugar ratio. as far as taste goes, i like it. i had to get use to it as you do with any sweetner that is not sugar. nothing will ever taste as good as sugar.

okay, i have looked up stevia and you can cook with it. the only thing is now the fda has approved it as a sweetner and its price has gone out of site. i get mine from the health food store. the brand name is NOW. it is a 1oz bottle of powder stevia extract. it has a scoop inside that is probably less than 1/8 tsp. so it last a long long time. i pay 9.99 for the bottle.

hope this helps. if you use it in some recipies, let me know.
