Yes, I have tried it because I cannot take the SSRI's. It is GREAT for sleep and anxiety, but after a couple of weeks I had to stop, as it was making me feel more anxious. I also suffer from anxiety and take Xanax.

Very old class antidepressant, but very useful, overall, for those like myself who cannot tolerate the SSRI's.

Give it a chance... it might be your miracle! Good luck!

Hi Valeria,

I was just put on Trazodone 2 weeks ago to help with my fibromyalgia pain and in conjuction with Lyrica. I am not suffering from depression since November and so I can only tell you that it makes me drowsy and I've had no side effects from it. It's well worth a try. I had been on Effexor, Amytriptaline, celexa and Elevil over a 7 year period and none of those made me less depressed and I felt like a zombie and had no motivation at all. So having said that I will say that the Trazodone has not taken away my motivation which is a good sign.

I wish you well with this med and hope you give it at least 6 weeks to see if it helps you. That's the time frame I was told for full effect.

Take care!!!! :)

hey girly,
I personally was prescribed trazodone to help me sleep because my anxiety was so extreme. I am fortunate to have a pharmacist in my familly, my cousin who i am very close to. After taking it for a couple days, i felt like a complete zombie when i was waking up and that itself was enough to give me anxiety...i suffered from headaches from being so druged up. SO i asked my cousin and he said basicly that trazodone is an old anti-depressant that had such horrible side effects of sedation that they decided to prescribe it as a sleep aid. I personally did not like it at all but everybody is diffrent. I'm very surprised that doctors prescribe it for depression since it has so many side effects. Theres much better SSRIs and SSNRIs for that. I found prozac extremely helpful for anxiety and depression and it did not cause any weight gain , even made me lose weight. I would discuss with your doctor what is best for you and plz be aware of the side effects. LIsten to your body, you know what is best for you.

For those that cannot take the SSRI's and SNRI's, sometimes their only hope is the older class of antidepressant tricyclics. Trazadone is one of those... if you are starting out with a large dose, expect fatigue. But, you can always start out with 1/4 or 1/2 a pill, depending upon the dosage you have.

I am currently using it again for sleep and nocturnal panic attacks.

tried trazadone and became depressed for the first time in my life on it. I was taking it for another condition not related to anxiety/depression, but for an acid reflux thing. Boy, I couldn't get off it fast enough. Scared me because I would cry all the way to work for no reason. My doctor said, "stop it now." Stinks, because I need an alternative to an SSRI now and I can't use this one. ugh.

Hello All! I have been on trazadone for 24 years. I only take 25m per night (1/2 pill). I have not had a panic attack since about 10 days after I started taking it. I still have generalized anxiety and problems driving but no major panic attacks. So naturally I say give it a chance. lol

I've bumped from Xanax to Zoloft to Trazadone to Buspar (current med) Of the 4, I'd say Trezadone gave me the worst fatigue and headaches, but that was just me. If you read the side effects labals, they ALL cause fatigue, headaches, dizziness, etc. so I believe it is simply (easier said than done) a matter of working with your doctor/physician to find the one that is right for you.
