Clonazepam anyone?
There a 3 major drugs in this drug "family", Xanax, Ativan and Klonopin. Out of the 3 Klonopin is the "Least" addictive and lasts the longest in your system. It also has a long "half life" which means every 35 hours you don't take it the level in your system drops by half and it keeps dropping by 50% every 35 hours.
This is why Pshyciatrists and Doctors prefer it over the other 2. The down side is it doesn't work as fast as Xanax does for those really intense panic sessions.
I was taking 1 mg everyday for a year and went off it (slowly) with out any issues. I may have had a few uncomfortable days but not bad overall.
So, if you have to take a benzodiazepine Klonopin is a good choice.

Is it really 35 hours?? I knew that it had the longest half life but that seems like a long time to be in your system. I thought it was 18 hours. That makes me very nervous. So does it pileup in your system if you take it more than once in 35 hours? Would that make it unsafe to have a beer if you had taken it within those 35 hours? If I choose to have a few beers on the weekend,I always skip the clonazepam b/c I am terrified of having a drug interaction. But now that I know about the 35 hours...maybe I should cut the beer out completely...*sniff, sniff* (Chelsea sheds tear)

Hi Chelsea, if I were you, I'd take the clonazepam, but skip the beer altogether. It really isn't safe to mix benzo's with alcohol. When you take doses of clonazepam, you either take them 2, or maybe 3 times a day. it's not like xanax where you take as needed. You should be on a regular shedule. I used to take it 3 times a day, now I take a larger dose twice a day. It is metabolized through your liver, as most drugs are, but it is excreted in increments. I wouldn't worry about it piling up in your system. Take care.

Hi Hally, I think that I will just not drink anymore although, like I said, I DO NOT mix the two. I do not take ANY clonazepam on days that I choose to have a beer or two, because I know that it is dangerous. I was told to use clonazepam on an as needed basis just like xanax. I think everyone is different as far as how much they need to take. Thanks for the reply!

I have been on Clonazepam for one year, taking .5 at night and sleeping like a baby. Since I started the program I am starting to cut it in half every other night. I can tell a difference in my sleep patterns and sleep so much better on the .5. But with the program, I am not freaking out in the middle of the night when I don't sleep. It was just recommended to me to try a natural supplement called L-theanine to help with the sleeping. My plan is to go back and forth between the .25 and .5 and eventually just stay at .25 and then go off completely. I am not sure of the exact "coming off" recommendations.
Jenny, be careful about coming off of clonazapem. You should do so under a doctor's supervision, because there are potential side-effects. I won't discuss those, because, well, it can be scary and I know what it does to me to discuss side-effects. I am currently taking 1.5Mg per day of clonazapem. I did quit taking it for a while, but did so with the help of my pychiatrist.
