I am so sorry to hear about his, but if I may, it sounds like there is a bit more to this. A job must have a valid reason for letting an employee go and calling in sick because of an actual illness is not valid. I feel that to become a better person you must be honest with yourself. Something seems off with this. For as far as state laws goes, I have not heard of that in Michigan ever.

No its a law....if you do anything to mess up at all and its before your 90day they can fire you for it. I know it terrible but its true. Thats why they call it a 90day trial peroid. Its with any place of work in michigan. Thats why a lot of places give you either a raise after 90days or fire you.

This place was terrible anyway. They treated me like total crap. I worked my butt off and was never appreciated for it. I still stuck it out as long as I could

They didnt fire me for "calling in sick"
I didnt call in sick the "proper" way. Well for only beiung there for 3months I didnt know an Icecream store had a proper way to be called in too.

I dont feel like I need to go into full detail about what happened...but it was done unfairly.
They were losing business and needed to get rid of some of the employees, and by me making a mistake(that I didnt even know was) they fired me

THANKS.

I hope that wasnt a low blow telling me im not a good person.

I dont know if you have any idea..but michigan is the most hard up state for jobs right now.
They will fire and hire with a blink of an eye.

DMP720-
I know exactly where you are right now. I can kinda relate to what you are dealing with. If they fired you, I would think you have a legal issue, but if you say that the state of Michigan can do this, then I guess they have done this and nothing can be done. That is so unfair, and I want you to know that the company will not stand, nor last doing things like that. I have seen this done before. I was fired once for something similar and within 6 months after they fired me the company folded up (went out of business). I tell you what, hold on to God and know that God has something much greater for you. Trust me-there is so much more out there and God knows what it is. You will be writing us back telling us what kind of doors have opened for you real soon! I trust God in knowing that he is taking you to higher heights!
Keep the faith!---and when in doubt, just go to the Book of Psalms in the bible! (smile)

I never said you were a bad person. I do know the state laws in Michigan as well and I had never heard of that one law. Please do not insinuate.

You have a right to a complete copy of your personnel file. Request it from your employer in writing by Certified Mail, asking that they send it to you within 10 days. Keep the return receipt confirmation, as proof that they received it. If they don't provide it, you can file a claim with your state's labor board for their failure to provide it. There are fines imposed on employers by their state for withholding this information from you after you've requested it. There may also be something in your file that you didn't know about, that might answer your questions about why you were fired, if they didn't tell you.

If you aren't satisfied with the explanation they gave for your termination, you can file a complaint with the Labor Board in your state if you feel that you were terminated unfairly.

Hi Melissa.

What DMP720 said IS TRUE. I live in Chicago, IL. And it is true in this state too. You can't assume that you know more than someone that lives there. That's arrogant behavior. Don't argue with her about laws. What she needs is support after this has happened.

DMP, you'll get through this. When a door closes, GOD really will open another one. But you have to believe. Have faith in him. You're a good person. There's good things in store for you!

You may be better off not working for this company if they will fire someone on a technicality like not calling in sick the "right way". If they can't even give someone a second chance because of a possible misunderstanding, just think what it would be like later on working there. So I say - on to something better, you deserve it!

I agree, it's better not to work for a company that is quick to let people go.

Anyway, why even go there and drag it out with labor laws & legal issues anyway. I'd want this issue behind me whether it was an ice cream store or a 5 star hotel. Just move on to bigger and better things, I think in the grand scheme of things this was meant to be.

As for why you were let go, you and your former employer only know that info but it's over with and the worse thing is to dwell on it over and over in your mind and let it drive you crazy.
