Fear of Flying/Traveling Help

Post by Terry55 » Wed Aug 07, 2013 4:45 pm

In three more days, I will be taking my first flight in 19 years. A three hour flight for my first real vacation in many many years. To say that I am feeling really anxious probably understates how I really feel. I have been able to conquer so many fears but this one has been an issue.

This week long trip focuses on some of my biggest fears...

Flying
Big Cities (I'm a small town kind of person)
Leaving my comfort zone (home)
etc...

For weeks now, all I think about is what if, what if, what if... What if I get a panic attack on the plane? what if I flip out? What if I get there and cant get home because of the plane ride? And so on...

Three more days, so if anyone has any suggestions, pointers, encouragement, or help with how you handle flying and traveling, I would love to hear it.

Thanks
Terry

Hi Terry,

This is Coach Chris from the coaching team here at Stress. Congratulations on this next courageous step. I am going to send you a private message with some self-talk attached. Be sure to be using your relaxation techniques. Visualize the positives and write out 5 positive whatifs. If you feel stuck write out the negative/lies and replace each one with the positive truth. I would carry the positive truths with you so you can be more prepared. Check your messages. I will send the self-talk there.

You are safe. You are courageous. You are in control. You have a healthy mind.

Warmly,
Coach Chris
