I have been doing fairly well...I force myself to go out and do what I need to (BIG IMPROVEMENT)I have ordered the book for celebrate recovery and found meetings..not drank to self medicate either for 16 days. BUT..now my fear of the dark has returned...I have always been afraid of the dark but now I don't want the lights off...when I am in the dark I feel as though someone is going to stab me...Really...when I am not alone in the dark it is better...as soon as the lights are on the anxiety is gone...What is this all about?
The other issue is now I am eating more...I hope I am not going to go from negative thinking, panic and anxiety to overeating. I start a workout class next Tues. but where is this coming from?????
Help please...Thanks
Darkness????
I'm glad to hear you haven't been self medicating as you say. That's a huge start. Alcohol only makes us feel worse.
I think the fear of the dark isn't so much being in the dark as it is all the scary stuff your thinking about such as being stabbed in the dark. Try and use your relaxation skills. If you need to keep the lights on for now ,so what.
Try and keep a food log and note what your eating and when your eating. Also note how you are feeling emotionally when you reach for something. Food logs really do help to make you aware of when and why your eating.
It's great that your starting an exercise class on Tues. What about going for a walk. I don't know where you are but it is bitterly cold here. Maybe an exercise video? There is a great one by Leslie sansone where you "walk" anywhere from 1-4 miles depending which one you have right in your living room. I found this really great when I couldn't get out. The walk for a mile is about 10-15 minutes, definitely do-able.
I hope this helps a little. Take care and God Bless.

Hi michelle,
I hope you are doing the program. If not I truly encourage you to do so. It is wonderful and teaches us life coping skills that we all need. I am so thankful for it. Listen, so what if you are afraid of the dark right now, just leave the lights on for awhile, until you are feeling better, it's no big deal. Look at it that way, and trust me the fear will leave sooner. About someone stabbing you, that is just simply an obsessive scarey thought, no more no less. Don't let it torment you, you are fine, and you will be ok. About you eating, nothing wrong with that, just go to your exercise class, that should all work out fine.
Exercise is one of the keys to feeling better. I am proud of you for going out and doing what you need to and for taking the class, those are huge accomplishments in themselves. Give yourself a big pat on the back.
Take Care of yourself and keep doing the program.

fairly well is good. And not medicating your self with alcohol is EXCELLENT. They are both improvements... you just have to rebuke the spirit of fear. I am going to give you something very powerful to fight this spirit of fear with.... The Word of God 2 Timothy 1:7 reads For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I have used this scripture many times to bring back in to the place of peace and comfort.
God's Word is powerful and will never come back void...He loves you and is there for you all you have to do is call on Jesus. And you can fight this spirit of fear and darkness with the Word of God and be victorious everytime. i love you and you are in my prayers
