Can you pass out?

Post by LauraLL » Mon Aug 20, 2012 12:02 pm

I was told by a guy I knew along time ago that you can actually pass out from a panic attack. Of coarse this has been one of my fears ever since. This guy wasn't a real honest person so I never knew if it was true. Has anyone ever actually passed out from a panic attack?

Hi there! I am scared of that too!!! I struggle with low blood pressure and feel dizzy and faint quite a bit (even if my bp is fine ... so I know it is from panic/anxiety). I've heard there are some people that are prone to passing out with panic, but if you've struggled with is for awhile and haven't, then you aren't prone to it. Does that make sense? Anyhow, someone encouraged me with - so what if you pass out? That is just your body getting to a state of equilibrium ... you get up and move on. Well, I try to tell myself that, but don't quite believe it yet! Sometimes I am so scared I can't get out of bed much. =( I've never passed out ... just that awful fear of it!

Hello
Ive read that these are all part of fight or flight body response. Being that we anxious people tend to put ourselfs in a scary situation mentally… our bodies go into this mode. Because its a natural response that our body does to fear its not like our body will self disruct ( pass out. Heart attack and so on). Ive read in the many articles about anxiety that the body will not make you suffocate or pass out or have a heart attack. Its a natural defense mechanism that we have. So don't dwell on those feelings. Acknowledge them as being anxiety. Remind yourself that its ok to be anxious. Heck it might be excitement. Do your breathing technique as soon as you feel symptom come on so you can nip it in that bud so to speak............ :D
