Anxiety at some level all the time

Post by chintckhint » Fri Sep 16, 2011 9:39 pm

I would like to know if someone out there is like me. I dont have panic attacks that last hrs and have the symptoms of heart palpiations, difficulty breathing, fear of death, etc. I have anxiety at some level all the time. It can stay low level but when I encounter something negative such as a situtaion (like my father being hospitalized) or just a word can put me in a high level of anxiety that i guess is my kind of panic attack. This doesnt last for hrs, it usually lasts for 2-3 DAYS before it comes back to a lower level. I am soo tired of this. I had been on meds for 14 years (benzos and antidepressanta) and became addicted to the benzos. I then made a choice to get off everything including caffiene in April. So, I tried to do it myself which was a disaster. I finially crashed in August and ended up in Er for the first time and was given a shot of Ativan that took the edge off. I then began therapy for the first time. I also went to a pyschiatrist who wanted to put me on a MAOI. Because of high BP I declined. Well after another trip to the ER I went back to the doc and I started Saphris along with Cogentin. It seemed that it took the anxiety to a managable level like a 2-3 down from a 8 on the scale. But now have got some news my father is very ill and it has sent me back up to a 6-7. This is very discourageing because the meds arent putting it down now. I want to crawl out of my skin. I also have a coach who is great! I am frustrated and scared now.I have been at a high level of anxiety going on 24 hrs now. I so wanted to do this without any meds but have to be realistic that I need help now. I cant stand the duration of high anxiety.... and yes to the question of positive talk. I have diligently been using self talk but no huge light bulb has gone off. How long does it take for this to work? I know it is key to recovery but honestly cant see the light at the end of the tunnel. Is there anybody out there like me? If so help would be appreciated.
