Answers for people who feel dizzy due to anxiety.

Post by Cancun1 » Tue May 17, 2011 8:37 pm

I posted on a members topic regarding anxiety and the dizziness associated with it. I feel I have a logical explanation and would like to share it with other members in hopes it will help....Stay Blessed.

I have the answer to your problem with dizziness and I think it will help you a great deal. I have battled with anxiety for the better part of my adult years. I have researched and educated myself on this matter extensively....Trust me!! Knowledge is power when it comes to this mental disorder....So here is your answer. Research has found that severe bouts with anxiety are due to either a life changing event that happened at some point in your life that effected you in a negative way....or....a chemical issue where your brain does not produce enough serotonin, ( the chemical that allows your body to stay in a calm state.)....Okay the same goes for your dizziness....Once again trust me because I have researched it and you got to believe somebody right? When your body has severe anxiety it can only keep up in that state for a short period of time...Roughly 1 to 2 hours at the most.....Then your body and all its glory produces another chemical that causes you to calm down especially if your serotonin is low and your body has been in a nervous state for a period of time. This chemical causes you to feel DIZZY!!! Why you ask? Because your body knows that if you are dizzy you are less likely to panic because how can you panic if you have no sense of balance and everything feels like you are on a boat in harsh waves...You can't! Anxiety is nothing more than a flight or fight response but it does make sense that the fight or flight is not much of a factor if you are dizzy and unbalanced...Right? Your body knows exactly what to do with every situation that it is put through...This feeling of dizziness you have is a good example...I have it too at times and just take it as knowing my body is doing exactly what it is suppose to be doing which is keeping me from having an anxiety attack...and your body is doing the same thing for you...I hope this helped...Stay Blessed

That makes so much sense! Do you know which chemical it is?

Good Question, Pauly! :D I can't tell if I am having sinus problems or anxiety. I know for sure that my lower back is killing me. It is probably because I'm getting older, not on any anti-depressants that use to take the pain away somewhat and I'm probably not getting enough proper exercise in to give me the Serotonin levels to take away pain. Or I don't want to take Advil or Aspiring due to how it might make my gut feel. Such a vicious cycle! I think I need to do some walking and not stay sitting up at the computer for long periods...I don't know. It probably is my age. Ugh... :| Paislee  Or is it stress? :P

I find that the dizziness tends to MAKE me panic!!! I'll go all day with the dizziness and then my symptoms will gradually build up and I have a massive panic attack! It all starts with the dizziness for me. Now if I could get rid of the dizziness, that would probably lessen my panic attacks and constant state of anxiety by at least 75%, if not completely make me feel better. Because on the rare day that I don't have dizziness, I don't have any anxiety or panic! So how do you get rid of the dizziness????

I get the ringing in my ears and it only lasts for maybe 10 or 15 seconds then stops. It gets louder and louder then quiets down then stops. As for the dizzyness, I got the full blown dizzyness a few times, but most of the time I will feel like I'm walking on a small boat in rough waters. That will last for a while. I just tough it out and wait for it to stop and it always does.

I just wanted to weigh in on this one. My anxiety ALWAYS comes with dizziness and some days feeling like I will pass out at any minute. It's a con! It's all ONE BIG ANXIETY CON! I have never passed out (and hope never to but even if I do I will just get right back up.) The amazing thing to me is the sheer number of folks who have anxiety always have dizziness. I'm not really sure medicine is close enough to know exactly what is going on in the nervous system to make us feel this way but what I do know is that if you learn to get rid of the panic and anxiety the symptom will leave. I know this because I have done it time and time again. I let myself be fooled into listening to my symptoms under times of stress but once I rationalize it, I can manage the anxiety and ultimately the dizziness abates. It's a vicious cycle and I think we all "KNOW" it, it's just hard to put it into practice. Our subconscious minds and our emotions are much stronger than anything our rational thoughts try to tell us - hence we panic. The key, the ultimate key, that i have heard from every person that has recovered is to learn to accept it. Truly accept all the symptoms - not put up with it, but accept it. Let yourself be dizzy, even invite it in (this takes practice). But if you ultimately accept it for what it is and quit trying to figure it out or even fight it, I promise you, it goes away. sometimes I envision my anxiety as some big furry creature (a sasquatch even because that tends to make me giggle a bit too) that keeps popping out at me to scare me and then I tell myself if I Ignore said creature, he will eventually get tired of scaring me and go away. OR if I'm really, really good - I might one day make friends with my furry creature and at last that is the true acceptance.

Fearless,

I love your analogy about Sasquatch. I think I will use it. LOL. Thanks for giving me a good idea and a good laugh at the same time!
