Uping your anti-depressant dose

I'm just curious if anyone has taken the starting dose of their anti depressants for a while and you still had some anxiety and depression and if when you up'd your dose it made you feel much better? I'm just curious because I am thinking about up'ing my dose because I am still experiencing some depression and anxiety. Thank you.

holly,
I have known others that have done that.some do it because they think that the dose they are on is not enough. or they have not been on it long enough for it to work.
I will tell you this.you will still have some depression and anxiety but not like you have had.
I think that it comes and goes as you go through things.have you been going through a rough time lately or other things ?
I do hope that this helps you some.I will tell you this.I had been off mine for awhile and since my wife got worse with her fibro and manic depression and other things. she went from a cane, to a walker, to a wheel chair.I felt like I needed to be back on meds and I went back on them.I did not take the full dose.I took it when I felt I needed it.take care and hang on.relief is just a prayer away.Merry Christmas and be blessed

Hello Holly,
I was on lexapro 10 mg for 5 weeks and my doc just upped it to 15mg. I see some improvement, but am still looking for more...lol. Doc said we may need to go to 20mg eventually, that lexapro usually requires higher doses to treat anxiety...We'll see...

I have been on 10mg of Lex since I started it in April and havent needed to up the dose. So far that dose works well for my anxiety. But I have known many people that have needed an increase and it has helped them. I would discuss with your doc. Glad to see you are feeling better.

I started out on 5 mg, of lexapro, then went to 10 mg for like 6 weeks, or so. Then doctor uped me to 20mg, since being on the 20, i have felt somewhat better. But my suggestion is to make sure to discuss with your Doctor if u plan on increasing meds. And it does take a while for the meds to fully kick in, so definitely be patient, and you still may have a bit of anxiety, but you can and will get thru it.

I agree with aim1974 When it comes to increasing doses. I actually work hard to reduce my intake of med. Hopefully, as I reach the 15th week, I can feel well enough in control to stop it. Of course I will make sure my doc is on board.
