Depending on who performs the procedure, it is often covered by insurance.
It has been around for many thousands of years, and is now often taught to medical doctors and allied health professionals. Should give you some insight into how long it's been a successful form of treatment for many things.
Over the long haul, nothing works as well as changing how we think, however.

Acupuncture helps and I'm telling you this from working with an acupuncturist. Usually acupuncturists also give herbs to take in combination with the treatment. It is very good for calming the mind down and to let go. If you have more specific questions I may be able to help you with them. Part of the training i went through was in chinese medicine.

Hey InnerPeace,
he absolutely BEST thing any o us can do about anxiety is to educate yourself about the symptoms, our overly sensitised subconscience & body! Knowlegde is POWER! Once you have this knowledge you will be able to overcome it because you can recognize it for what it is and begin to dismiss it for what it is........overthinking everything!
I suggest books by Dr. Claire Weekes.
If you want more info, please PM me because i rarely check back on these postings. I am living proof of what I just told you, and I know it CAN BE OVERCOME!

Hi!
Yes, I have
--I'm a fan. There have been quite a few discussions here about it. I did a quick search and the results are linked here. (But you can do your own, if you'd like. Click on "SEARCH". Then put in the criteria you want.)

I was trained at the Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine for a certificate in acupressure and had many acupuncture treatments. I also had a practice for a while with an acupuncturist. My clients all had relief from anxiety, but unless it was done on a regular basis it was short lived without herbal remedies to go along with it. I found it immensely beneficial before a surgery. It sped up my recovery time and decreased post surgery swelling.
RodH makes a good point. Knowledge can be very helpful when it comes to overcoming anxiety and depression as it helps to erase those negative catastrophic thoughts. The only thing is, is that knowledge may be power but it isn't initiative. It is like a cannon in a way as if it isn't used then what good is it for you?
If i can be real honest with you. Medicine, Therapies like Acupuncture, Massage therapy, physiotherapy, shiatsu, reiki...all these things can definately help you but they aren't going to solve the problems. They may help to reduce the symptoms but you need to work through the mental aspect or else the anxiety and depression is just going to keep coming back. They cannot force the habit of negative thinking to completely vanish. The therapies and medicine and such push you a few steps forward but if you continue to think the exact same way then you're going to walk back a few steps and in the end it is just going to end up costing you alot. I've seen it many many times especially at the student clinic in my school and also at some of the wellness clinics I've worked at.
My advice is to do it if this is something you feel would benefit you but don't do it if you are putting all your faith in it alone.
