I get the pulse thing in the back of my neck. I hate it. Sometimes I can only hear that and nothing else.

I can also feel my pulse too...I can feel it slowing down all the time...It scares me to death...I have gone to the er several times over this and was reassured it is just anxiety...It still does it and i ignore it and the panicky feeling will eventually go away...It can be really scary..I always thought my heart was just going to stop...

I too have an addiction of taking my pulse. I can feel it w/out trying to find it. I am constantly aware of my heart beat. Even though I have a "pretty good handle" on my anxiety I still take my pulse daily. The other night I could feel my heart beat in my gums and teeth. That was weird. Wasn't too long after that - I had a panic attack. I really need to focus on ignoring my pulse. Just so you know -Your not alone!

As you see you are not alone with this. I had to reply because I had a bad night last night due to my heart beat pounding in my ears, my husband said he could hear it...true!

I had eaten a lemon dessert, I havn't eaten stuff like that in months and won't be again after last night. I didn't sleep well at all either, likely all the sugar. I know my heart rate increases with caffein and sweets or any anxiety at all. I have really been carefull about watching what I eat and it does make a big difference with all the body symptoms.

You will be fine. :)

Hi,
This was a major issue for me about 12 yrs ago. OCD is a major part of anxiety and panic and it's the fuel that keeps it going.
The key is finding a distraction .
A simple form of aversion therapy can help. Place a rubber band around the wrist you keep checking. Every time you go to check your pulse, snap the rubber band, more than once if necessary. This should distract you enough to refocus on something else. You can also use this method when you obsess about other things, ie.feeling spacey, will I embarass myself, etc.
I haven't done a pulse check since 97', even when I've been in full blown panic mode. The temptation has been there, but I remind myself of how I felt when I obsessed about it and the urge isn't worth satisfing.
I hope this helps.
I wish you all have a Warm and Joyous Thanksgiving!
a new mantra for life:
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain.

<span class="ev_code_BROWN">My problem is he the same. I roll over in bed and I feel my pulse pounding in my head then all at once I feel it EVERYWHERE. It basically almost hurts my head when it does that. I was just in the Doc's office a week or two ago for pain in my chest. Constant pain in my chest. He bascially told me it was more than likely a panic attack but just to be sure he sent me to get some tests. Blood Tests, Exray, and and EKG. I SAW the EKG printout. I have never in my life seen a more perfect EKG. It looked textbook like they use on those hospital type shows.

It freaks me out big time to feel the pounding in my head. It causes dizziness there after too.

I also check my pulse more than I should. I get pain in my arms that turns into pins and needles kind of. So I will check my pulse and feel NOTHING in one arm. Then I panic even more.

I have found myself outside walking in the cold air around 2 in the morning to talk and walk myself out of the panic attack. I jsut have to stop worrying about that. I think it is me causing this pain and what feels like no pulse. I am sure in myhead that the blood is flowing the way it should be me in panic to upset to feel it.

Ok enough of that. Everyone have a great Thanksgiving Day and a yummy meal to boot. I'll be eating a turkey breat alone due to my son being stupid and spending the day with the slut who got pregnant deliberatly to trap him. I can't believe my son is that stupid. All his friends said they figured of all the people in the world they never would have guessed he would be that dumb to caught up in this. ANd now the baby has a heart murmer at the age of one year old. :(</span>
