Ok here goes, lately I have been plauged by work anxiety. I am an IT Manager for a call center. It is a stressful job as I have to ensure the system stays up so we can answer calls for emergency clients, doctors, etc. Tommorow night we are doing an upgrade, a software AND hardware upgrade. I am already stressed out big time. Our vendor has sent an installer down to do the install but I am still very very nervous. I just want to forget about it and handle it as it comes but it is very hard. any advice?

I wish I had the right thing to say to you. When I get nervous, I listen to the relaxation track. I dont have to be laying down, just have it in the background.

Something else I try is saying my mantra - and oddly enough, it works! I also picture my niece all the time - in fact, she's the one I play with as I make my way to the waterfall.

Also - a last thing, and don't hate me for this - I know a product that you can try which would prevent software issues, if that's something interesting to you. Maybe it would help reduce the stress to know that your systems are running just fine. I work for the company, and trust me, you've never seen a product this sophisticated. Look it up if you're interest: dynaTrace.

I hope the top part helps, at least a little. Just repeat the mantra - mine's "maintain your cool" and "you are calm" -- pretty simple, and very effective.

Hi Spencer,

You do have a vaid reason for feeling stressed out so it's really just the fact that all the worrying and what if something goes badly thinking isn't going to change the outcome. It's something that will likely go smoothly so all this stress will be for not. I know it's not easy to stop worying about many things that are out of our control but if we let our time and energy be consumed with what we can't change than we are wasting prescious moments, hours and days as well as making ourselves sick.

I can only say that all this stress is non productive and won't have any affect on the changeover...just your state of mind and all the icky bad body symptoms that accompany this so try to redirect your thoughts to a positive outlook and tell yourself that things will be fine and even if they don't go completely smoothly it's ok..as it will all fall together nicely. Most things we worry about never happen or are never as bad as we anticipate...just flow with all this and focus on good, happy thoughts with all your strength.

Sending you good wishes and positive energy.

Take care, BELIEVE IN GOOD ENDINGS!!

Hey Spencer.

I know full well about workplace anxiety. The one thing I learn (then forget, then learn, then forget, then learn, then forget ......) is that there's no point in worrying about tomorrow. I think it has to do with that "precious present moment" thing. I can tell you to stop worrying but that has to come from inside you. Just pay attention to today.
