Heart Palpitations At Night

For the past few weeks I seem to be having heart palpitations only at night. They start around 7-8:00pm and it's usually when I lay on the couch to relax after a long day. Every time they happen I feel like making an appointment to see the doctor the next day, but I know that he'll tell me it's no big deal. I wondering if it's from the food I ate for supper or the medication I'm on. I take Buspar twice a day at the same times (6:00am and 6:00pm). I've been on Buspar for a year or so. If I sit up it doesn't seem to bother me, but at some point I need to lay down to go to sleep. It also seems to bother me when I lay on my left side opposed to the right. Anyone have any ideas or going through similar events?

Hey, how about trying the relaxation tape at night. It might be due to the stress you have during the day. Maybe the tape will help you cope with what you have gone through during the day. And no one can understand what you are going through better than you. I learned that the hard way. Also, did you just start taking the medication? It might be due to that as well. You might be experiencing side effects.What if you start writing in a journal and let out all your stress, worries, and anxiety on the pages you write on. Maybe that will also help with the palpitations at night. Remember when Lucinda said that there is a problem that you are not dealing with when you experience these things. So maybe these tasks will help you realize something that you are not at peace with in your life. Hope this helps. Take care. =)

I would bring it to your doctors attention. I know my doctor recently prescribed Buspar twice a day for me. I won't take it because she said one of the side effects is heart palpatations. That is the main thing I am afraid of with my anxiety is my palpatations so I was scared to take the medication as soon as she told me that. Of course I still haven't taken it and probably won't for just that reason. I wish you the best and God bless!!

I have the same problem and I'm not on medication. Even when I don't feel anxious, I get the palps when I lay down at night. It doesn't really bother me all that much any more. . .I just breath and it finally goes away. Sometimes I feel a little out of breath too. I also notice a difference on my right versus my left side.

I've considered asking a doctor about it but I don't want to make a big deal out of nothing. Sometimes I wonder if it is a physical issue or just my body slowing down for the day.

I'm thinking probably the latter.

Years ago I had an echochardiagram done and it didn't find anything so I assume it's still fine. It's been like 15 years ago when my doctor said he felt like I had an irregular beat.

Thanks everyone. Of course last night I didn't have anything. That's a great thing. I sat up longer after eating and seemed to be a bit more tired so when I laid down I went to sleep a lot faster. I also put in lesson 2 and I was sleeping in less than 5 minutes. I guess some days I just need to relax more.

i don't know about your medication, but I am taking thyroid medication for being hypothyroid, and I had the same problems when I was at my worst with panic.

i would lie down, and start to relax or doze off and would be awakened with a heart palpatation.

i did go to my doctor and told him this, and he advised me that it was all anxiety.

and do you know the funny thing? after i had that reassurance, and it did not scare me anymore, would you believe that they completely went away?

for me anyways, i think that i was in such a constant state of panic, that any sign of relaxation on my part caused me to waken as "i was not supposed to be relaxed", i had trained myself how to be panicked.

so, ruling out your medication as the culprit, it can very well (and most likely is) anxiety causing the problem.

oh, and if you are having trouble falling asleep, daily, strenuous exercise can really help you there.

also, for me i have found completely eliminating or stopping any caffeine after 12pm, and no sugar after 7pm helps me sleep deeper and more restful.

(i have eliminated caffeine and refined sugar from my diet entirely, but occasionally i will sneak some beloved ice cream in the evening and find that depending on the quantity and time of eating it, can affect my sleep patterns and I can wake up feeling slightly groggy)
