chest spasms
Okay. I haven't posted on here for a while but I have a symptom that has come up and I need your guidance. Yesterday and today I keep getting "chest spasms." That is the only way I know how to describe it. As quick as it comes, it is gone. It is not a pain nor an ache. It is a sudden spasm that comes quickly then leaves. The problem is it scares the hell out of me. I keep thinking this is a symptom of a heart problem. I do remember a couple of months ago I got one that jerked me forward. I have not had "severe" anxiety symptoms for a while and then all of a sudden these spasms came and I don't know why. They just came out of the blue. Any help would be appreciated.
catrisch,
by spasms do you mean heart palpatations?
if you do, i can really relate as this has been my most persistent symptom. what part of the chest is this occurring in?

Hi catrisch,
I'm not sure if it's similar to what I get as it's very hard sometimes to desribe feelings in the same way from one person to another but mine are like a muscle group that tightens and hurts and may stay for a few seconds or a minute or more. I get spasms in my rib area, toes, fingers, abdomen. I've had these for about 10 years now.
Need a better description from you please.

I used to get the same things in my neck, and the sides of my neck and shoulders. Just like a charlie horse for a second....and if I tried to rub it out after, it felt bruised. When I started to get my anxiety under control, I realized how tensed up I had been carrying myself for weeks. Those went away, my headaches went away, and it was almost like a muscle relaxer to be able to relax. I wonder if even though you don't feel "terribly" anxious, maybe you are in a constant state of tension and are tightening up your chest when you don't realize it, and it occasionally cramps or spasms. Hope it helps.
Not sure if the YES YES YES was for my reply or someone elses but it's tension, stress related generally. I was given a script for mine due to the severity of them and it worked great. I no longer take meds though. It was called Norflex, tried over the counter muscle relaxers but they didn't work for me.Originally posted by catrisch:
yes, yes, yes
as quick as it comes, it is gone but for that quick second, you get the crap scared out of you
Nothing bad comes from these except annoyance and the icky feeling during the actual spasm. Mine were so bad in my fingers and toes that I looked deformed during those spasms and of course i used to drop a lot of dishes. LOL
Try to relax as much as you can, anything you find soothing, but they can still happen at any time even when you don't feel stressed.
Good Luck, They aren't pleasant.
I have had the spasms happen in my chest(around the center) quickly and once they are gone, I feel soreness. When I went to the ER again, they explained it was the muscles in my chest cavitity contracting. Like another person said, subconciously we may think we are relaxed but our bodies do something else to try to get us in that panic mode again. After that I noticed my sleeping positions with my arms and yes, I end up sore when I do sleep with my arms extended over my head but don't realize it until I get a spasm. I'm sooo tense at times the smallest tension doesn't phase me until I get it.
