SSRI's and SNRI's
What is really the difference and which one is supposed to work better? Actually, do SNRI's not produce as much serotonin as SSRI's since the SNRI helps with serotonin and norepinephrine. I took lexapro for 3 days and had a bad reaction and now am prescribed prestiq which is an snri. I am very nervous to take this tonight and i am so sensitive to anti depressants she wants me to take it every other night.
"Come to me, all who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)"
i started on lexapro, with little or no response to help with depression. my doc then prescribed effexor xr (a combination serotonin + norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, which as i understand it, works on both of these receptors in your brain, rather than just on the serotonin receptors, as lexapro does) i have been very well pleased with the results, but they don't come immediately. it took several weeks for me to actually start feeling better, so don't give up if you don't see initial results!! the only negative side effect was occasional night sweats, which could of course be due to that wonderful "change" going on and not even the med at all!! now, after almost 6 months on the med and 1 1/2 month on this program, i almost feel "like myself" again!!
:):) so hang in there, keep the faith, and good luck to ya!!

I actually am taking prestiq 50mgs. Its like the new and improved effexor. Im on day two right now and its going good. No side effects like i had with Lexapro. I am DEF sticking to it though. I dont feel wired at all. Feel a bit spacey and tired even, although I am taking ativan 3 times a day along with the prestiq.
