Prozac or Generic {Fluoxetine}

Is anyone taken Prozac or the Generic? Im just wondering Does it work for you? And do you get any side effects?

I fear meds and i just have my Fluoxetine sitting in my purse.... Wanting to take them cuz i know it can probably help me but im so scared.

Does anyone have suggestions or anything

Hi Shelly. I started out on Prozac (the generic version). It did not do much for me. But, everyone is different. It takes about a month to see the full effect of any new medication. However, you will know pretty quickly if it is making you worse. I have switched to Zoloft and am now trying to cut back on my dosage. I wold say the best thing to do is try it. Keep track of how you are feeling on it. If you notice improvement, keep it going, if you don't, talk to your doctor about trying something else. good luck.

Hi...I am taking the generic of Prozac...20 mgs once a day, and it works for me. My doctor gave it to me for a chronic condition I suffer with and not for depression, but I know it definitely helps me cope with my health issues. Hawaiihereicome is correct about saying it takes around a month for the drug to "kick in." I've actually heard that Prozac (or the generic) is better than Zoloft and is easier to "wean" off of because Prozac has a longer half life (this means it stays in your system longer).
