I always feel as if I cannot breathe good. I constantly clear my throat and feel like something just cuts off my breath for a quick second but I have always been able to breath in. I get so scared and fear that one time I am not going to be able to breathe and die!! Has anyone experienced this feeling? Please help!

Oh my goodness, you have just described MY worst fear! Yes, I go through this too. My worst anxiety symptom is not being to catch my breath and then it gets worse and worse because I fear that I'm just going to stop breathing. You are not alone. It's going to be ok though. Are you doing the program? I have to tell you that the breathing part of the relaxation exercise is really hard for me, because when I start to focus on my breathing...I feel like I can't breath!! Does that happen to you too?

I've been through this before years back, and the program helped me tremendously. The axiety has come back again, I beleive because I've just been too negative lately. So I am doing the program again to help me get back on track.

When I have my "breathing problem" it helps for me to keep reminding myself that it is just anxiety, I am my safe place, it will pass...etc. It helps when someone else can distract me.

It'll be ok, you're not alone. You will get through it and this program will help you!

Best of Luck
Steph

Thank you so much for replying!! I have went through the program before to but only got to session 6 and felt better and quit. But I just had my first son 3 1/2 months ago and my anxiety has spiraled back at a full force!! I always feel like I can't breathe and then I breathe in so much I get afraid I will pass out. I hate this feeling!
Thanks,
Jacquelyne

hey- just take a look around these posts.

i think just about everyone on this site has this problem- myself included.

mine is a "rolling" anxiety, though...and I have literally had EVERY one of the symptoms over the past 5 months as the anxiety rolls around my body.

For the past, 6-8 weeks it was heart flutters and a sensation of not being able to breathe enough air, or having to work to hard at it.

Today, my anxiety is all in my head as my chest is clear, but my head is foggy and I am disoriented! :)

isn't anxiety fun? (jk!)

on a more serious note though, ethans mommy,

it only seems to occur when I am thinking about it.

as soon as I DISTRACT myself with something that occupies all of most of my faculties, then all of sudden, its not there anymore.

When I distract myself it is normal I guess. When I eat it is worse cuz I think that there is something stuck and I can't breathe. But the thought that calms me down is that when I am sleeping I am breathing normally so therefore it is all in my mind that I can't breathe good when I am awake!

I think most of us feel it when we are thinking about it. Just like I can have the greatest day and realize it, well, the great day is over at that point!

Once I acknowledge the anxiety, positive or negative, I can go into a virtual tailspin.

I try not to think about my anxiety at all, but sometimes it just happens.
