I have been dx wit agoraphobia and panic disorder, plus PTSD. I am having what I think is a "scary thought". I think that because I have this PTSD thing this program won't work for me. I read about anx/ depression and panic here, but hav'nt found anything about people with PTSD. Please understand this is not about "I think I'm worse off than you because of PTSD" I do understand that anxiety is anxiety regardless of the cause and we are all in the same boat. But, I still keep on having all these self-doubts that I can't recover using this program. I need some advise, because obviously I am very confused.....
Please respond. I am so stuck right now I,ve come to a standstill and I'm not doing anything.

Hi:
Oh yes! This program will work for you.
A lot of people on here have PTSD.
They've gotten great results with the program.

But you have to work the program. Starting at the geginning.

I do wish you success ---- and health.

PTSD is another form of anxiety disorder.

While no program, medication or form of treatment is guaranteed to completely cure PTSD, doing nothing (coming to a standstill) is guaranteed to just make it worse. The negative thoughts about not being able to recover from PTSD using this program are discussed in session 3.

My roommate has PTSD dating back from Vietnam. A friend of mine has PTSD from being repeatedly sexually abused when she was younger by a "trusted member of the family." Both of them have experienced tremendous relief from their symptoms with therapy. It might never be totally gone but they can function again in society and they can both stay clean and sober whereas they couldn't before.

Take it from my personal experience. Untreated anxiety and depression doesn't just stay the same when we don't do something about it; they get worse.

You have nothing to lose by trusting in the program and working through it. And you have a whole lot of people on your side here on this forum.

Best of luck,
MIKE

Tigs,

I am sorry to hear you have all these issues building up and getting diagnosed with PTSD is definitely a tough one to overcome.

I have had anxiety my entire life (I can admit that now) and believe I suffered from PTSD in the mid-90's. It was not as well defined then, but as a firefighter and EMT I have seen some off the wall stuff and went through a very bad time as an EMT in '94 after a pretty rough call. Hard to believe the little thing can set that off, but it can and that is why it is best to talk about it, but you also need to speak to people who understand or more so who are trained.

Hopefully you have identified the incident which has caused the PTSD, because this will be half the battle in recovery.

Hi Tigs,
Try to keep in mind that, just like Mike said, PTSD is another form of anxiety. I think that the most important thing for you to do right now is continue with the program (or get started today if you haven't yet).

In my experience, this program was a God-send. I was never diagnosed, per say, with any disorder including PTSD, but anxiety is anxiety. I went through a time a few years back where I couldn't go to work, I couldn't ride in a car, I couldn't be in crowds, I couldn't go shopping, I couldn't be home alone...the list goes on and on. I couldn't do any of these things without having a panic attack. I didn't know that's what it was at the time, but I knew that something had a hold of me and was stealing my life away. My husband (who was my fiance at the time) heard a radio advertisement for this program and ordered it for me. (I might mention that refused to seek medical help because everyone was telling me they could "give me something" for what I was feeling...but I'm afraid to take medication...)

Anyway, this program completely turned my life around. The panic attacks and constant anxiety soon became a thing of the past. That was six years ago. I've recently started to experience anxiety again, because of certain life events, and I've decided to do the program again. I realized that I've moved more toward negative thinking and I have to learn to focus more on the positive.

Have faith that this program will help you, because it works if you're open to it. Stay positive and good luck!

Thanks for all your responses. I knew in my gut that this was "stinkin-thinkin", but fear takes over and, well, you know how that goes.... I do have childhood abuse issues that I've been trying, one day at a time, to overcome. But right after I bought this program, my son went through a similar crisis as I had and it brought up all my old stuff. I just hav'nt been able to get going. I guess I gave up. It hurt too much to see my boy suffering. I stopped trusting and lost hope. Thanks OC Mike for sharing about friends with PTSD. Standing still is'nt the answer and I know I can help my son heal if I make a commitment to myself to do the same. I want to cry right now cuz I've wasted so much time, and the power of speaking out and being listened to has really touched me.
Thankyou....Thankyou..... Thankyou....
