Hi everyone....I am new to the program. Just in week two. I am suppose to start a job on Sept 8th and part of the job is flying for a week of training. I have just come out of a very stressful, anxious time for two weeks of not leaving my bed. Agoraphobic. I have made such progress. I am out and about floating as best as I can with the anxiety. But, I am very nervous about taking this flight. This will hit on all my fears...new job, closed in conference rooms, being away from my boys and husband, and flying. I am wondering if this is too early to undertake. My doctor took me off xanax after using it for a month...he felt it was too addictive. So, I am on something new but, it does not work like xanax. I am very nervous and not sure what to do...can anyone help with suggestions???? Thank you all....

I was in your same siutation. I started the program at the beginning of february..the 2nd week into my program i had to go from DC to SF for work. My first anxiety attack happened in my car and closed in spaces started to freak me out. Have you read from Panic to Power? My mom bought that book for me as my reading material for the plane. It really helped me out. I survived that experience and just this past week I had to travel yet again. It was a struggle getting to my firs airport this past monday, but by the time I got on the last plane this week, I really could see a difference. Just be strong. Even though you feel like you can't do it, you really can.

I have to give you a hand for your progress! You are definately not alone. I think that I will soon need to do some traveling with my work as well, and the flying thing is not something that I am looking forward to... I am scared to fly, and guess what? I am a private pilot... I have a pilot's license. I have not flown a plane in 10 years or so, but, when I used to fly, it was something that I couldn't wait to do! I loved it... I miss it.

I'm embarrased to admit things like I'm scared to fly, especially when I have flown planes on my own... that was then, and this is now... I am on week 3 of the program, and I can see progress, and I am so thankful.

We just need to remember that WE are our own safe place, or person, and try to replace negative "what if" thinking with something a little more true & comforting... come to think about it... air travel is one of the SAFEST modes of transportation on the planet.

Formyboys, I wish you the best, and I hope to hear from you about all the neat things you got to see and do on your trip, and if it is OK with you, I would like to borrow a tiny bit of the confidence you gained along your journey!

Have a good day!

hello, what I can suggest is to take the program with you.Yes ur going to feel anxious b/c u r away from your family and thats normal. But remember that you can do it. If you feel its going to be to much for u since your new to the program and you have alot more to over come i suggest that you spk to ur dr to give u a few xanax to get u by. Good luck!
