Does anyone else not really enjoy the relaxation exercise like myself? I have found that sitting there listening to the relaxation session usually makes me more anxious, thinking about my problems and the ongoing anxiety that I have. The tapes and the homework has helped, but I'm not too sure about the relaxation. If I cut out the relaxation would that be a bad thing to do? Can anybody relate?

Hi there, I think it would be a huge mistake to not listen to the relaxation tape. What I do is quite often have it on while I am pottering around the apt. Just having it in the background. I find it very soothing. Also, now I put it on when I go to bed and try to actually follow it while lying in bed and just let it keep going as I try to go to sleep. I have noticed lately I don't remember it going off so must have drifted off before the 3 sessions on the tape had finished. Please don't give up on this, I really do feel it is so important for people like us. Good luck.

I love the relaxation tape as far as the music and listening to Lucinda's soothing voice/words but because my breathing is so messed up I have a hard time getting through that. If I wasn't so in tune with my breathing meaning I am constantly focused on it, I would use the tape far more often then I do. I just recently started using my tape a few days ago after my husband came acrossed it. I had thought I had lost it and hadn't been able to find it for several years. I plan on using it more regularly because when I first got the kit back in 2002, the relaxation tape would really help me relax at night and helped me to fall asleep much quicker and easier. I wouldn't stop using it just yet and give it a few more tries.

God bless,
Susan

Hi, I say definitely don't get rid of it. The problem people with anxiety and panic disorder seem to have is relaxing, literally we forgot how to! Atleast I did. It was irritating to me at first to, but you have to stay with it because it will retrain your brain how to relax. It's kind of like in an anxious situation, your mind can click back to that relaxation you feel when listening to the tape. It takes practice, but you will eventually want to listen to the tape everyday because you will look forward to the relaxation. Good idea is to go to sleep with it, I do. You see, it's your conscious mind that doesn't want to accept it. If you can listen to it while you're sleeping your unconscious mind will take it all in and that is what is most important. Maybe find another relaxation tape that doesn't bother you? Sometimes peoples voices, or the scenery they take you through can be bothering. So, ask yourself would a different do? Or, is it just the relaxation bothering you? If it is just trying to get in that space of relaxation, keep up with it, it's a must in getting better. Good luck and god bless! :) I also like Louise Hayes cd's that state postive affirmations, they are wonderful. I have the one for stress relief.
