sigh

Do you ever feel like you are cursed? Like, the obstacles are just...never-ending? Like you are constantly being tested over and over and OVER again?

My boyfriend and I have been planning on me and the kids making the move across country to Baltimore to be with him, for going on 3 years now (a few months after being together). FINALLY, things seemed to be looking up (after a HUGE fight earlier this month...which gave us the chance to 'clear the air' on some things), and we had finally set the final date to make the first visit with the kids in tote (I have been out there to visit him alone, without the kids). The date was set for next Tues. Everything was in place. He was to fly out here and then we were to all head out (in my van) that next day. We wanted the kids to visit there two or three times before we just up and moved them across country, to get them accumstomed to being there.

My son has got to get registered for school soon, so we were planning on the move for Sept, at the latest (as I dont want to have him switch schools).

Between the both of us, we have also put in over $1000 into my van in the past 2-3 weeks that I had just bought last month. That $1000 is just REPAIR work, not the actual cost of the van. I actually JUST got it out of the shop yesterday, paying $300 that time (and 2 weeks before that, $700).

So, guess what happens??? I get into a pretty major car accident today. Someone tried to come into my lane, and came within an inch, at most, of crashing into me. The kid couldnt have been older than say, 19 or so, and he didnt look to see if there was anyone in my lane. So I slowed down, scared out of my mind because he really came VERY close to ramming into us, and of course the guy behind me SLAMS into my van. And when I say 'slam', I mean SLAM. He was going at least 40+ mph. My van is totalled, inside and out. The rearview mirror FLEW off, hitting my poor son in the head (and giving him quite a nasty bump/bruise), my vents off the dash came flying off, my seat, for whatever reason, broke and went FLYING back (that couldve also hit my son in the head, not sure what did exactly come to think of it), and the back-end as well as the sides of my van is just totalled.

And now I also have to replace all of the carseats...about $300-400 (I have 4 kids).

Thankfully, after being transported in an ambulance to the hospital (which did NOTHING to help my anxiety/panic, as you can probably imagine), everyone seemed to be ok (and trust me, toting 4 small kids AND me AND 2 paramedics in the back of an ambulance is umm...not fun, to say the least).

Trying to focus on the positives though...trying really hard.

*No one got badly hurt
*The guy had a license and insurance
*The paramedics were very nice
*Although I did get a bit panicky, I WAS able to ward off a full blown attack...dunno how in the world I was able to do that.
*The cop offered to give us a ride home after we were discharged from the hospital (I needed 2 cars to transport all of us since I have 4 kids, and most cars only fit 3 kids in the backseat).
*My boyfriend wasnt mad at the wasted money and was just glad that everyone was OK!
*At least my boyfriend is still planning on coming out and just making a 'regular' visit to here, but is planning on staying a bit longer than his 'usual' time of 5 days...he is trying to make it work at his job to where he can stay at least 8 days.

sigh
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is a quiet voice at the end of the day, saying: "I will try again tomorrow."

Mary,

Great work. You really handled this really well. I just started so I hope I can be at your level soon.

MY level???? Really??? That makes me feel really good, because I feel like I am just...OUT of it! Like, at level ZERO. Thanks for lifting my spirits up a bit.

Don't worry about the car seats. The insurance company for the driver that hit you should pay to replace those. Just tell the auto damage adjuster who sees the vehicle that you have to replace them. He'll want to take them with him for proof, but they will pay for those to be replaced.
