Do you think I can do this?? I have booked 4 days in New York in November, Its always been a bit of a dream for me, New York in the fall, however its appox an 8 hour flight from Dublin :( which is really scaring me as I've never even been on a plane, I mean what if I freak out?? I am excitied but scared $hitless as the same time. I wanna be out on the Plaza at the Rockerfella Center with Al Roker holding up my banner :) But as mentioned I am scared.

Celeron - YOU CAN DO IT! NYC is truly magnificent in the Fall. I remember when I started feeling better and I would do little things. I visited NYC in February during one of the WORST anxiety periods in my life, and you know what? I survived! In fact, I had a great time. I encourage you to plan for greatness, and give yourself a break if you feel anxious. Once I started joking with my friends about things, I felt better (I love to make fun of my anxiety - it empowers me)....

Good luck!

I flew out to Hawaii last year during a period in which i was feeling no anxiety, but put it in the back of my head wayyyy before i left i was just going to have fun and whatever happened happend. I did not put any expectations on anything about the flight or my visit or basically anything at all. Control is the issue here, being on an airplane can bring in the negetive thoughts like crazy. Of course you know negetive thinking is the trigger to anxiety attacking us.

Find something to do with your 8 hours that will really keep you focused, especially at first when you take off. They have iPods now that show movies, or even other devices. Perhaps grab your favorite movie and just set and watch it, when a negetive or scarey thought comes up, then just refocus on postive thinking.

New York is indeed a fun place to be, juts tell yourself you deserve to go there, cant wait to get there, and just live your life and be free of this thing.

Go for it!! I have never been to NY because of my anxiety about flying (my flight would only be about 45 minutes to an hour). Also, I would LOVE to go to Dublin because my greatgrandfather came to America (New York)from Dublin in the mid 1800's. Right now I don't have the money to do either, but when I do I'm going to do both. I can do this and so can you!!
