Ginger Root 4 Acid reflux?
Has anyone taken ginger root for acid relux? I went to the healthfood store today to pick up aloe vera juice- they were out and suggested ginger root instead. Evidently, like a.v. juice, ginger root is also healing AND an anti-inflamitory. I was also told it helps in regulating cortisol (a HUGE perk considering my metabolizism has slowed considerably in the last year!).
Doe anyone else have experience with this- + or -, I really don't care.
Thanks!

I eat ginger all the time for my acid reflux and it helps. I also take it for nausea and when I feel anxious. It calms me. I eat the ginger chews original brand (I think that is the name). Sometimes when I feel like my throat is closing in I'll chew on one of them and feel better. They're small so I take them with me everywhere. I love them!

I used it when I had a stomach parasite that was undiagnosed for several months (it was awful). The best product that worked for me was actual raw ginger root in and of itself. Processed versions are simply that. Just go to the market and but a hunk of ginger root, grind it, chop it whatever into small pieces. You can boil it like a tea (it is hot at first but sooths as you become used to it), you can put it in a smoothie. It really does work for nausea. I am not sure about the anxiet relieving since anxiety is purely psychological caused by constant negetive thinking as we all are aware of from being in the program. Using it perhaps causes a psychological effect of calm to the stomach and thus relieves the feeling of 'becoming anxious'. I feel the program is quite clear about all forms of body symptoms are as a result of anxiety which is NOT anything more than our body and mind's way to reacting to negetive thinking, poor self esteem, feeling hopeless...all of which we bring on ourselves through the way we process every day thoughts and events. This is why you hear so many people say " I am completely recovered and drug free". How is that possible? By loving yourself, believing in yourself and just going out and living your life. Stay away from Cafinated, sugarary and high carbo products, will indeed make you feel gittery which scares us into thinking we are having anxiety and of course then we will just by thinking it.
Hope that plus the ginger root helps with your acid reflux, which by the way, is cureable as well. Have a wonderful wonderful day.

I buy those ginger chews at trader joes or any good health store. RMENURSE8 is right about the raw ginger being the best for you. But I dont like to carry raw ginger and these chews are convenient. They are spicy and warm tasting but it helps. And like what RM said, since it has a calming effect to your body it makes me feel better mentally. I do know it helps for acid reflux and nausea. I made my friend who was sick drink ginger tea. She didn't want to at all because she didn't like the taste but she drank it anyway and told me she felt better and thanked me for telling her about it. I find that any ginger helps me. Even the candy chew one I have. I hope this helps!!

Thank-you everyone for the great responses! I really appreciate the feedback.
RB- you mentioned that acid reflux is entirely curable. Of all the meds I'm on, it truly feels like Nexium will be a lifetime. I'm only 35, fairly slim, eat well, and am almost certain the reflux began as a result of extreme stress. I also excercise but have not been able to as much as I'd like.
Right now I am taking 40 mgs. of Nexium 2x'S daily, but have also started a holistic approach; for instance, I'm seeing an acupressurist who says much of my problem is associated with poor posture. In addition to the ginger root capsule, I also take Floragen 3 (probiotic), and sometimes drink aloe vera juice... when I can gag it down- YUCK!!!
My anxiety has lessened considerably, but I do take 3/4 mgs. klono 2x's daily. I'm also close to tapering off zoloft entirely (YEAH!!!). Do you have any other suggestions that don't interfere with the meds or ideas on how I can get rid of the reflux? My biggest problem is the sour taste in my mouth.
Thanks!

Sounds like closer and closer you get to getting completely off the anxiety meds, which most always have side effects-ill inter action effects with the Nexium (in and of itself causes nausea and upset stomach, go figure), the closer you will be to holistic flow throughout your system.
Although the drug companies would like for you to believe Nexium is needed for long term, it is meant for a repair tool to damaged mucous membrane, mucosal. That stuff has funny side effects that often times make a poor human feel worse. Ugh!
Diet i would almost assume you are aware of but a reminder to stay completely away from any caffiene, coffee, sodas (those are poison to the tum tum), sugar and of course alcohol. If you do like to nip a bit (as I do), I go only for the wine. Natural, gentle and makes yah feel super good with your special someone over a nice dinner. Acidic fruits and vegetables will knock you for a loop.
Have you tried visiting a holistic physician? If not take a moment and read on the internet about intestinal YEAST INFECTIONS, there not just for the female anatomy, almost always not properly recognized or treated. There is a specialist in Boulder Colorado that has a site-wished i knew it but if you see Boulder Colorado come up, that is the one. You may be missing a diagnosis, just a thought-not trying to place worry in your mind, just something for you to look into.
You are correct about your extreme stress and now your suffering the consequences. Wished we could just learn to give our troubles to GOD and not have to be in control of every little aspect of life constantly diagnosising ourselves and worring to death-that is not why he put us here. Ever thought about hypnosis to assit with negetive thinking, there was a chat about it a few weeks ago I found 'unbelievable" the way it was presented but yah know, the right person could get to the core of your problem.
Hope that helps and for GOD sakes surrender your worries, we only have just this one opportunity to be happy.
