Are there any good herbal products for insomnia out there? I occasionally take OTC and prescription sleeping pills and they make me feel foggy when I get up. I was wondering if there are any good herbal or natural products that are effective that don't have the side effects.

I understand that melatonin is supposed to work well for insomnia. My doc told me that Rozerm, a prescription, doesn't make you groggy, but reworks your natural melatonin in about 2 weeks.

I had insomnia for awhile and thank god I work at WHOLE FOODS! Great vitamin selection and the people in WHOLE BODY give great advice. I take valerian root about 2 capsules an hour or so before bed and I take melatonin 30 minutes before bed. I keep the melatonin under my tongue till it dissolves so it will get into my bloodstream faster (it also says to do so on the bottle)
Something else is KAVA KAVA ROOT they have teas and capsules it is REALLY REALLY good! There is another product called sound sleep which has valerian root kava kava and other things in it.

Drink chamomile tea then take your supplements its a good way to work a positive routine into your sleeptime!

I took Melatonin every night for years. A few weeks ago, my psyciatrist gave me Rozerem, and I took it for about 10 nights. Then, one night, I decided to try a night without it and found that I could sleep on my own. This has been a big accomplishment for me as one of my biggest fears is sleep, and I was unknowingly fighting it really badly. Good luck!
