Is anyone on Xanax Er?
Hello!I was just wandering if anyone is taking or has taken Xanax Er?I've been taking it for 2 years.I take 1mg 3 times a day.Sadly I still experience quit a bit of anxiety and even still have panick attacks.I'm starting to wander if the med is causing this?I ask my Dr. but he said no.I'm really concerned because if the med is causing this then how am I going to get better?I know that I'm mentally dependent on it and I'm sure after 2 years I'm also physically dependent. It rules a lot of my life.I'm always watching the clock to see if it's time to take another pill! It's supposed to last over a 24 hour period but like I said I have to take 3 a day because when I was taking less it would ware off and I would have the most intense panick that I almost couldn't handle! It felt like I had just drank 20 cups of coffee!Has anyone ever experienced this? What should I do?I know that I can't just stop the med.I'm just wandering if my anxiety is really this high or is it possibly the med?Buy the way when I sleep at night I usually sleep the whole 8 hours with no problem. It's when I'm awake that I'm usually in freak out mode.Hmmm? Thanks for any feed back.

please don't freak out this is a good site to deal with that ...it is very comman after long term use but be forewarned there are a lot of horror stories...but 99% or OK now and doing great...again a very comman tolerance withdrawl symptom with a tritration and possible crossover you will be 100% again...

I take 1 mg of xanax er per day plus I have 0.25 mg tablets for as needed use if I have overwhleming anxious episodes (fewer and farther between since working the program). Talk with your doctor about your concerns; dont' try to manage this by yourself. From my personal experience I can share the following information. Since xanax is an anxiolytic, it does not cause anxiey, it blunts the physical symptoms of anxiety making it easier on you to deal with the mental side of anxiety, which must be addressed since it is the cause of the physical symptoms you are having. It sounds like you are having breakthrough anxiety plus your tolerance has been building for 2 years to the medication. the point of this medicaiton is to allow you enough of a break from the overwhelming physical symptoms in order to work on your way of thinking. It sounds like xanax is not working for you anymore and you're in a miserable holding pattern if not falling backward. A tolerance (not the same thing as addiction) builds where you must take higher amounts of the medication over time in order to get the same result. there are many other anxiolytics to try while you "Attack anxiety and depression" with the program for example clonazepam. talk to your doctor and relay all the facts! Don't leave anything out. Listen again to session 10 (the truth about medication and alcohol). Do not be afraid of withdrawal and do one thing at a time and not by yourself. Lots of people wean off xanax and other meds. Again, talk to your doctor; they have the degree, years of training and experience, you and I don't, so go help yourself and get the help you need. Good luck! Remember, it's only anxiety
