I have been wanting to wean off of my meds for a while now, I have been taking lexapro for about 5 years now. And I have been reading about all of these people who get really bad withdraws even when they wean off of their meds. I dont want to be on meds anymore and i have been on them since i was 16 so i dont know what it is like to not be on them. I am now 21. I want off these meds so bad, but i am sooo scared of the withdraw and i am scared that my anxiety will be horrible if i get off them. Has anyone else ever weaned off anything?

I've reduced my klonopin just a tad, but it was a long process. I'm still on it. These things are so very addictive. Never, ever try reducing it without a doctor's guidance and never go off of them "cold turkey". Good luck. Rob.

I have weaned off klonopin and Zoloft. Actually a nurse in the ER was surprised that I took half of a .5mg klonopin, she said it was a nothing dose. Ok I thought, a "nothing dose". I stopped taking the klonopin cold turkey because as the nurse at the ER who is educated said it is a "nothing dose". HA! Let HER try it. After 5 days of doing the cold turkey thing, OMG!!! The "motherload" of ALL anxiety attacks I had was THEN! Wimpy dose? SHE should try it...then get back to me! This needs to be done slow and under a doctors supervision.I also did 1 med at a time. Take it slow and if you feel it is too fast, talk to your doctor. This weaning can be make to ease your side effects...just TALK with your doctor. Any if they say, Well you should not feel this way. Ask them if THEY ever weaned. I bet most never did. (mine did not!)

Yes, there is hope! I have tried several times over the last 10 years to get off medication, and it is working for me now for two reasons: 1) this anxiety program gave me the skills to talk myself through the rough times and 2) my doctor switched me to Prozac awhile ago, and he said Prozac is the easiest med to withdraw from because it has the longest half-life, so that it stays in your system a longer time and is a more gradual withdrawal. You should ask your doctor about switching to Prozac. Also, you should go through this program before tapering off your meds... Good luck!
