anxiety and resistance
As I said in my new peer group my anxiety is increased-I was very depressed last night(I am 4 days in) and am almost afraid of using the relaxation tapes. I think my tension and heightened alertness must have been my protection for so long-also I worked in critical care. I am definitely one who jumps when someone walks up behind me. I guess I need alittle encouragement tht it is normal for some to feel more anxious and then hopefully it will get better?
I am going through a similar thing. Do you want to encourage each other to use the relaxation tapes? We can just do them, and if we don't relax, so be it. My therapist said it can take two weeks of three times a day to start to feel the relaxation effects. Do you want to try it? also, if you can afford it, a personal coach might be a good idea.
Please reply to the "idea" post on the may groups board if you want to join us in committing to the cd.

Hi Missy and Amber: I too had a period of heightened anxiety after beginning the Program. Not to worry - it's actually pretty normal from what I learned and is good news, it means you're more aware of what triggers your anxiety and that means you can work through the true issues you're dealing with. It gets so much better so keep up the program and you'll be amazed at the progress you make. I think we all wish it would happen overnight, but that's not reality. It took a while for us to form our thought patterns and it takes a while to change them. Trust me it's so worth the work you'll put into yourself. You will feel the rewards of your efforts.
i had anxiety and panic attacks too, but I went through a program at our university, discovering our core values, what we truly believe about ourselves and why, and how we can replace that with positive beliefs - for instance, I panicked when I made a mistake they got me to think about why, and I said it would be the end of the world and they asked why? and I laughed and said "it wouldn't really be the end of the world if I made a mistake would it?" my partner wouldn't leave me for a small mistake, for instance,(which was my fear) and believe it or not, making a mistake isn't something that triggers panic anymore, sometimes a mild sense of oops, and a tensing up but that's it. so it is possible! hang in there!
I was a bit skeptical about the relaxation CD until I used it. I'm always one to sleep very lightly, in fact almost conscious.
I put on the CD a couple days ago for the 2nd or 3rd time with the intent of just listening to it, and it made me fall so deeply asleep that I had vivid, realistic dreams at 3pm (I never dream), and I was almost late grabbing my kids from school!
That sounds horrible, but it was an accomplishment in its own that I was able to nap that way. I'm normally afraid my husband or a neighbor will come to my door and "catch" me sleeping. (I feel lazy and guilty if I'm sleeping instead of getting things done)
So I strongly suggest that relaxation CD, ESPECIALLY if you're feeling anxious. DO IT!!!

Hey guys thanks for your words of encouragement-I did use the tape today "Yeah for me" and then had a little nap- It was a differnet nap not so "heavy" as I sometimes have and I was able to get up and go do some things.I am also thinking about some things in my personal relationship that I am upset about and just turning inward. It did clear my head a bit in other words. thanks!
