JJB1! So, if I am taking .05 mg 3 times a day, I'm actually only taking 1.5 mg...is that right or am I totally confused???? I really would like to know. Thanks, Judy

If that is the case, that's a rather low dose in comparison...right?

WoW Terri so you are taking 3 mg twice a day which equals to 6 mg total of xanax you are taking daily???? I have never heard of anyone taking such a high dosage? I was always told by my Doctors that anything that exceeded 4 mgs would be in a toxic levels I guess my Doctor was wrong??????

Luvlife…That is correct…you are taking 1.5mg…thats all..remember folks benzos increase the natural effect of Gaba that is produced from your own body

Terri64 If you are still having negative racing thoughts associated with alaprozam then you might want to try clonazepam…this seems to really help with obsessive type thinking and you could cut your dose frequency down with the same effect as it is stronger and stays in your body longer …the only very small negative on clonazepam is it could very slightly worsen depression tendencies in which case xanax seems to do better with depression I might as welll ad some interesting new research from Wikipedia states :

However, in 1992 Romach and colleagues reported that dose escalation was not a characteristic of long-term alprazolam users, and the majority of patients indicated that alprazolam continued to be effective.[13] A 2003 study did not support the hypothesis that long-term use of benzodiazepines frequently results in notable dose escalation.[14]In a 1-year follow-up study of patients with panic disorder continuing treatment with clonazepam, 90% maintained a positive response without developing significant tolerance. In a 2.5-year follow-up study of alprazolam therapy, little evidence of tolerance emerged.[15]
Remember if you’re worried about overdose only 1% of all deaths due to people taking and usually abusing the drugs and others are related to Benzo consumption 1% folks

God bless

jjB1,
Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I guess its natural to feel bad about ourselves that we have to take a med. for anxiety. However, it has helped me so much in controlling alot of my anxiety. I guess I shouldn't dwell on the fact that I have to take med. in the first place. After all, anxiety is a real condition and we would all more than likely take medicine for any other health concern. Sometimes I think people really under estimate how dibilitating anxiety and panic disorders can really be. Thanks for the insight!

Today I made my first driving trip away from home panic free in years!!! I have been thru 3 sessions. just educating myself about what exactly causes panic has been very helpful. I do keep a couple of xanax in my vehicle but have rarely ever taken one. but it seems to be the consensus that it is o.k to take some to get you thru a tight spot??? I only panic on trips away from home. So if I panic do I take a xanax or do what the program says????

confused???

Just remember do not Ever quite theses meds cold turkey if you have been taking them constantly/ daily for more then a couple of weeks….there is a very slow tapering program that you must follow to avoid very bad withdrawals, which again can b alleviated by a very very slow taper program… such as Dr Ashtons

I carry them around with me to “THREATEN” my anxiety and that seems to help a lot…work the program first and foremost …If you travel which scares most of us its easier to take one before the anxiety / panic takes over (put on the brakes), and get to your destination then it is to suddenly try to stop a speeding car/ …Remember just enough to “put out the fire not flood the forest” but don’t depend on them every time just know they WILL work if you have to take them…

Hi, wow, I can't wait to stop taking xanax, right now I have been taking it for a year and a half.In this time I took it up to 4 xs a day at .25. Now I want to go back to that amount but twice at .5. I can honestly feel my anxiety going up. I know what I am stressed about, I just need to learn how to deal with it. I am on my third day, session 1. Please wish me luck

I've been on xanax now for 3 years. Along with clonazapam (klonopin), lexapro and mertazapine. My panic attacks are still horrible. Drugs don't work. Hoping this program does...I'm reading with great anticipation that it just may be what I need!
