:( I suffer from vertigo along with anxiety and depression. Just wondering if anyone else suffers from this. So even though I completed the program in 2004, I still could never stop the vertigo. Which the doctors tell me is heritary from my mother. I always have that dizzy, spacey feeling that never seems to go away. It's in my central nervous system it's a rare type. I do not have meniere's syndrome or an ear problem. So I quite often get confused if I am having a panic attack or vertigo. I usually get a combination of both. Doing the program has taught me how to live with the vertigo. So if anyone else suffer's from vertigo I just want to let you know that this program has helped me deal with that problem as well. Sometimes I think I'm the only one out here suffering from vertigo. I get it when I get nervous and panic, that triggers the vertigo. If anyone else out there suffers from vertigo. Please let me here from you, and tell me how you deal with those feeling that can last days, weeks or even months or years?

Thanks, Dee

:( Maybe if I explain what vertigo is maybe someone out there might be experiencing the same thing.

What is vertigo? Few people describe their balance problem by using the word vertigo which comes from the Latin verb "to turn." They often say that they or their surroundings are turning or spinning. Vertigo is usually due to an inner ear problem. But not always, as in my case.

When I get vertigo I feel like I'm spinning in circles or my surroundings are spinning and I feel spacey and ditached from the ground and like I'm sinking or something. I can't think right my thinking feels foggy. Sometimes my legs get numb. The more nervous I get or the more anxiety I get the worse my symptoms of vertigo get, such as my vision gets worse and it's difficult for me to see with all the spinning going on. So I'm not sure if it's just anxiety or if it's vertigo. The doctors tell me it's vertigo that I have and that there is no cure for me. They tried giving me meclazine for the nausea and for the spinning but it doesn't help. The doctors tell me to lay down and rest and it will go away but sometimes it doesn't. It is getting in the way from me working. And since I want to go back to work, I'm scared about having vertigo and the anxiety. Since I get it almost everyday, and that is making me depressed.

Dizziness or dyequilibrium is often associated with a central problem and can result from not enough blood and oxygen getting to the brain. This insufficiency may be due either to narrowing of the vessels that supply blood to the brain (arteriosclerosis), pinching of blood vessels in the neck (cervical osteoarthritis), or as a result of disorders such as diabetes or anemia. In these cases, dizziness generally occurs when getting up from a sitting or reclining position or when turning the head suddenly.

Thats what usually happens to me if I turn my head suddenly I get really dizzy and spacey and that causes my anxiety. Because I feel like I'm gonna fall on the floor or something, and sometimes I do fall.

If the doctors says there's no cure for me what am I supposed to do if I want to work? I don't know what my options are? I've even tried to apply for disability before but I was turned away. And well my job experience is sort of secretarial work and typing on the computer makes me very dizzy and brings on the anxiety which starts the vertigo.

I just don't know what to do about it. Are there any suggestions out there for me? I would appreciate any comments.

I was wondering if hypnosis would be an option for me? Does anyone know much about hypnosis and if you think that would work?

I do believe I have the narrowing of blood vessels that is restricting oxygen to my brain and that brings on the symptoms of spinning and that scares me and brings on the anxiety. What can someone do if your blood vessels are so narrow? Can they be widened, somehow? So I can get the oxygen to my brain that I need? I found that my pinching the back of my neck repeatedly that causes the spinning to stop for a limited time and then goes back to spinning.

Anyways I need some help and some advise.

Thanks, Dee

Hi Dee,

I have occasional episodes of the dizziness, detachment, all that good stuff. My grandmother had it and so does my mom, fortunately mine is not as bad as theirs.

It can be hard to tell if its panic or vertigo, especially since they share symptoms and an episode of one seems to touch off an episode of the other sometimes.

I just wanted to tell you about a trick my RNP told me. When you start to get the detached feeling, bring one of your index fingers up, keep your eyes on it and watch it while you touch your nose with it.

Sounds strange I know but can actually work. The best I can figure is that it may bring you back into your head if you know what I mean.

Have you been evaluated by an audiologist? That might help if you decide to apply for disability in the future.

Best,
Staci

I suffer from vertigo also and it is a terrible feeling. Doc couldn't find anything wrong with me and neither did an ENT (ear, nose, and throat dr). So please don't feel all alone, hang in there.

i, too, suffer from it when my panic hits. i've been to a few doctors; likewise, they couldn't find anything wrong. as a matter of fact, one of the doctors asked me, "do you have anxiety problems?" i was dumbfounded.

:) Staci, David & Imbrium,

Thank you so much for replying! I feel so alone sometimes. I wish there was a permanent cure for this vertigo that we suffer from. It just bothers me that if the doctors say there's no cure then why did they turn me down for disability. How is someone suppossed to work when their surroundings are spinning in circles and your thinking is foggy and you feel like your gonna fall and my judgement is off, it is so difficult for me to work like that. I have been diagnosed with severe eposidic vertigo. I think I might try to apply once more to see what happens. If I don't qualify, I will continue to work like this, I will just let my supervisors know in advance what I suffer from so that they are aware of it in case I get a vertigo attack, and continue to use my tools from this program. You are so right Staci, they do share alot of the exact symptoms as a panic attack, and it does cause depression as well. I wish all of you the best of luck! Take Care! ;) We're not alone.

hey dee,

i have vertigo myself, and trust me, i know how frustrating it is.

my doctor gave me some ear drops called, 'Zolene HC' which do help alot, especially if your ears feel clogged too.

Liboflavonoid is also supposed to help, if you've got ringing in your ears. alot of people have had success with it, i haven't got to try it yet, but i want too.
