Since being diagonosed with acid reflux in early Nov., I've been prescribed 40 mgs. of Nexium 2X daily. Although it seems to be improving, I still get acid tounge occasionally.

I recently read a post that recommended aloe vera juice and went to my healthfood store to buy some. When there, I was also recommended ginger or licorace (sp). Has anyone tried either?

Thanks in advance for any response!

Hi fischee -

I tried taking a tsp of apple cider vinegar once a day for a few days, and my acid reflux has diminished almost completely. If you can't take pure vinegar, try it on cucumbers. It is a rememdy from an alternative medicine book.

Sometimes it can help if you drink milk with a high fat content. The milk fat helps to dissipate the acid. Peppermint is also good for stomach problems. You can get peppermint oil or just get peppermint candy.

PLEASE DO NOT take milk products especially high fat and by all means DO NOT take peppermint. Both will make your stomach much worse!
Here's what works:

2 Tble spoons of Apple Cider Vinegar (raw unfiltered)
1/4 Teespoon of baking soda
8oz of water

Take twice a day on an empty stomach

Avoid:
High fat foods
caffiene
coffee/tea (all types)
carbonated beverages (all types)
chocolte

Relaxation before eating (at least stop and give thanks).
Don not eat anything 3 hrs before bedtime.
Raise the head of your bed several inches
Get plenty of exercise and reduce stress.

Please feel free to research this on your own if you don't believe me.

God Bless and Peace be with you.

I take a Protonix pill every day for my acid reflux, and it's helped ALOT. Occasionally tho I'll take some Mylanta, which is a good quick fix.

Drinking alot of water obviously helps too, cuz it helps keep the acid out of your throat.

I took Prevacid for a few months. Seems to have worked well. It can make you feel odd though. I just take Tums at night now and watch what I eat.

I take a constant dose of Prevacid... it's the strongest thing on the market. If you have acid reflux please get it treated properly, long term it can result in esophageal cancer. **I don't want to scare anyone, just inform!!**
However...a great 'home remedy' for some stomach aches is Peppermint. I just carry Altoids around with me and when I am getting a sour stomach from all the acid I eat 4-6 pieces. Best of luck to you!

I also have acid reflux diagnosed after an endoscopy. I was taking Nexium which worked very well but read that it may interfere with calcium absorption so I switched to Zantac and that seems to be working well also. I drink an organic Ginger tea that really helps my digestion but not sure if it actually helps any acid reflux.

I know that Nexium (and others) can deplete the body of calcium- has anyone heard that because these drugs neutralize acid the can also eliminate the positive bacteria in your stomach and cause constipation?

I went to see an alternative health practioner (sp?) yesterday and learned a lot of interesting info.!

Will post later, as it is late and I'm ready for bed.
