Who made God?

The spiritual response to anxiety and depression

Anyways, back to the question, “Who made God?” It is important to clarify that Christians (most, I dare say) do not believe everything that exists needs a cause. Rather, everything that begins to exist must have a cause. There are many things that exist that are uncaused such as mathematical truths and the laws of logic. Even if the world was not created it would still be true that 1+1=2. The universe had a beginning so it must have a cause. But God by definition does not need a cause, he is uncaused.

Asking the question “What caused God?” commits a logical fallacy, namely the categorical fallacy. Two examples of categorical fallacies are: “What does the color red taste like?” or “How much does love weigh?” Clear the categories of color and taste are distinct categories that do not overlap, as are love and weight. Likewise, to ask what caused God is to commit a category fallacy, for God is by definition uncaused. It's like asking, "to whom is the bachellor married?" Paul Copan explains, “If we reframe the question ‘Who made God?’ to clarify our categories, we will find that the question answers itself. Let’s rephrase the question this way, ‘What caused the self-existent, uncaused Cause, who is by definition unmakeable, to exist?’ Any further questions?”As a young boy I often wondered how God could be eternal. I concluded that if the universe had a beginning then something must have existed prior to it to bring it into existence. This thought boggled my mind as a young boy, and it still does today! While the human mind may not be able to grasp how God has always existed, we do realize that something had to exist prior to the beginning of the universe. God, it seems to me, is the most reasonable explanation. Hope all is well with everyone. :)

Nely stated:
"Tara,
Jim NEVER said everyone should believe the way he does.
He was giving his facts as he knows them. He wasnt trying to influence anyone.
I have many catholic friends, im not catholic, but they love God , just as i do. Its certainly NOT anxiety producing, lol"

Not sure where that came from, Marti. I did not say that Jim said everyone should believe as he does. What I did say is posting anything like this as a "fact" can be anxiety producing to those of us that do not accept that as fact. So please don't "lol" and tell me what is and is not anxiety producing for me, okay? Thanks.

ty craw(((())))) to you and your struggles raising handicapped son..it is hard and heartbreaking by times, so many have no idea=there is no "time off". i wish i could share what has helped me with my own search and battle to find peace, but it is a journey we all must take i think...not an easy one for many of us. i wish you every best thing on that journey. you are right tho, often not found in religion. jim, i am sorry i snapped...more back story than you my friend---its been hard to deal with is all i can say, and sorry, you happened to "get it" when so many others really should have been the recipients. really, i do try to zip it and let it roll off, but lately boy oh boy. sighhhh. best to all. oh its been 3 years now craw, and i am adjusting better and better. just takes time. (((((((()))))))))))

No probs h.beth. We actually posted at the same time, so what I posted was prior, for me at least, to yours, that's why you thought I was referring to you. Was not the case at all, I assure you. I just wish this post wouldn't offend so many. I sometimes feel like I'm in a communist country, and not the USA. I can talk about God all I want. Last time I checked, this was a free country. I thank God for that too, and to all the men and women who fought for it to make it so. Have a nice day everyone...:)

Did someone have to make God? Can He not just be the source from which everyone and everything comes from?

Jim speaking of our free country! Let's HEAR it for our MEN and WOMEN over seas! And our service MEN and WOMEN in country too!
That is the BEAUTY in all of this turmoil-we are a free country! Also, God gave us the GREATEST gift of all-FREEWILL! Praise HIM! Here goes that word again-Why-we can't all post what we want to and except each other's posts as their own FreeWill! I have a Catholic neighbor-I love her so much! I at one time had a BF-female-who is Jewish! I mentioned before that I grew up attending a Holiness church sometimes with my BF-also female-I married-a male-LOL LOL LOL the 1st time and attended all of my childhood a -Southern Baptist church! I also married the 2nd time-a male-who was Methodist! I wked with a girl for quiet awhile and enjoyed knowing her alot-Seventh Day Adventistsp?! Growing up my Mother had a BF who was....oh NO the fog has hit me...I'll remember it.......one of my brothers married into....OH NO! The big ole fog-help me out here....they live in Utah-Okay! Mormon! She and my brother were at my Moms-Southern Baptist-Mom is on the nominating committee and is church treasurer- on Easter. My baby brother is a decon in the same church.
Jahova's Witness! Yes! thank you God for helping me here! my Mom's BF was Jahova's witness. I have to say that is what makes our country so beautiful! Whatif-another bad word- we were all the same! :p 2 of my BFs a married couple are Presbyterian! My son took fiddle lessons from a lady a Presbyterian!
I can safely say the only ones that scare me are the wiccans sp? And that is only because-I don't understand or have not inquired into that one. Ignorance begats fear. Satan thrives in ignorance and petty differences. Let's not give that one any power here! We have to forgive to be forgived! It is most likely that we aren't going to win anybody on this board to any certain religion. But, with all the pettyness we will most certainly lose some who need God! why would anybody coming on here for the 1st time stay!? When I 1st started I was welcomed by a couple of members who since I started posting haven't spoke to me again! LOL LOL LOL but I think I am safe in saying it is not because of my relationship with God!
I come to this garden alone......and he walks with me....
Peace, Love, Dove,
Always, Deb^J^

StillKickin
I have the utmost respect for our troops! I agree,, and I ask God to protect them daily!
Without thier sacrifices over the years, we might not have freedoms.. Pray also for thier families that are at home, safely waiting thier return...
