Just wanted to hear from people who have Hyperthyroid and or Grave's Disease and how it relates to Panic/Anxiety? Going in for scan because blood tests show positive for both. Is this related to Panic/Anxiety? and if you cure the Hyperthyroid does it affect your Panice/Anxiety?

Yes I had Graves Disease/Hyperthyroidism back in 1999. They cure it by having you drink a radioactive iodine which distroys the thyroid. No pain or side affects at all, just tastes pretty gross. The only thing is that afterwards your thyroid will be underactive because you will have little to none left. At that point you'll have to take a ormone replacement pill daily for the rest of your life. I was diagnosed when I was nineteen years of age. But, back then I did not have any anxiety or panic only until recently. But the medication does cause nervousness, anxiety but you need it. It's won't be an option it has to be taken. The thyroid is very underestimated, it makes hormones that control every organ and cell in our bodies. Keep me posted on your condition and if you have any additional questions don't hessitate to ask.

My grandfather had Graves disease and my sister and I both have Hashimotos disease which is kind the polar opposite to Graves. However, I will tell you that any condition involving the thyroid has a potential to cause anxiety. I am dealing with the same thing right now. The doctors are debateing when and if they should remove my thyroid. FUN!! Anyway, just be aware that until all your thyroid hormone levels out you might notice an increase in anxiety. Also keep in mind if you have panic/anxiety and are struggling with any stressful issue (such as your health) that can trigger them too. Just be kind to yourself and take it easy. Hope everything goes well for you.
