I do the same thing. My therapist says hypochondria is a form of OCD whic kinda explains why I ruminate about certain symptoms and such. I got so bad with it that I would be standing in line at the grocery store and if my eyes happened to scan the word CANCER on a magazine, it was a SIGN that I was going to get it! The same thing with those pink cancer awareness ribbons... if I saw one of those, it was a "sign" of impending cancer. It's difficult to manage but I notice I don't think so negatively when I'm busy, like when I'm at work. So I have started planning my day up to the minute when I notice hypochondria creeping in. I also try to stay off the computer. "Googlitis" can get the best of me sometimes!!! :D

To follow up Shaky Susie's post above, the web address for the Health Anxiety Center forum is:

<A HREF="http://healthanxietry.brightforums.com/" TARGET=_blank>http://healthanxietry.brightforums.com/</A>

And that is their brand new forum address.

After reviewing the posts I must say that the talk is all about various illnesses and health issues - - so if you don't want to read about those things, be forewarned.

Good luck all!

Thank you for looking that up. You are right about the posts - thank you for warning people just in case it might bother them. It is just a good place to go if you are worried about a certain symptom. Everyone there will usually say that they have worried that they had the exact same thing and they will tell you why you probably don't have it. It is very comforting to me to see that so many people worry about the same things that I do. No one will scare you there - if they do they get kicked out. It is just a good place to say what you are worried about and get some positive feedback.

Thank you guys for all your post it is comforting to know that I am not the only one who feels this way. My therapist says I am not to read, or watch anything about health, but do you guys notice that there are so many commercials on medications and then they give you the list of side effects like, possible heart attack or stroke. I have a DVR and I think that I am going to record my shows so that I can skip all the commercials. Oh, and thanks for the site also, if it gets to scary for me I will have to leave. I love their motto, "we can't all be dying", that is so funny. And Celeste am trying to read through the Bible in a year and your verse in Matthew stuck out to me, how I love that verse, I just pray one day that I will be able to grasp it. Hey guys have any of you ever watched the show MONK, it is funny, he has got so many issues, it reminds me of myself and it gives me a chance to laugh at all my anxiety problems. Thanks again guys!

Wow Sugarmama I can relate. Last night I had to keep putting my fingers in my ears everytime a prescripton medicine commercial came on. No kidding!

And I had to completely block out the Discovery Health channel from all of my tv's b/c I used to LOVE to watch it all of the time. Unfortunately, I know a little bit about a lot of diseases. People always come to me when they have a question. That's scary!

I am going to try something new this week. I am going to try and ignore all my physical symtoms for 7 days and then look back on if I feel any better, I hope this works.

Its so amazing that I also thought I was the only one that thought this way. I'm trying to find the best tools when I become anxious about an illness.

Here in Ireland I can pick up MSNBC and NBC via sat and the amount of medical adverts is shocking, Prescription adverts are banned in the UK and Ireland so we only get adverts for shampoo and beauty products etc which is good if your a hypochondriac, That advert that goes like this "At 200lbs bob was a formidable man, but he was no match for something half his size, a clot" It always seems to be on
