Needing Surgery ... lots of anxiety
good morning, I had my gall bladder out 2 years ago, and listen to me when I tell you, you have nothing to worry about. They do so many gallbladder removals in a day, they could do it with their eyes closed. The surgery is max 1.5 hours but i think it is really around 45minutes, you wake up, and go home!!! simple as that. My 75 year old grandfather actually just had his out before xmas with no problems. So, take a deep breath, tell yourself it is going to be fine. I know it is easier said then done, it is perfectly normal to have anxiety before a surgery, everyone does(even those that do not belong to this forum...lol) so its okay to be anxious and the surgery is going to go fine. take care
Laura,
I had my gallbladder out as well, It is out patient now were I live, depending on the situation. I was so sick before the surgery I should not have put it off as long as I did. I had mine out 3 weeks before my wedding. You will be a little sore but nothing like the missery that I was feeling like when I was sick.
They gave me some atavan before I went in and I was fine.
You will be fine, it is scary anytime you have to have surgery, but like Terag said it is so routine now. Good Luck!

Laura, I had my gallbladder out many years ago. I was not anxious at all, but I was on anxiety meds. The surgery was easy (not that I remembered any of it). I did have to stay in the hospital overnight, but now I understand it is done on an outpatient basis. It is okay to be anxious...normal even. Just try and remember that. It is okay to be anxious. Ihope this helps.

I'll chime in---had mine out the day after Thanksgiving in 2002, after letting myself be very sick for almost a year. DUMB!!! lol. It was done laparascopically, so three tiny holes in my belly, and I went home within a day or two. A little sore for a few days, but they give you pain medicine, and the relief from the sickness and awful abdominal and back pain was immediate. You will do great, and be so glad you did it!!!
