Anti Depressants Don't Work

Anti-Depressants work for me and always have. Like any medication though, people have different chemistry, so finding the right one is crucial. Also, anti-depressants aren't a magic pill, so even while taking them, we still have to help ourselves, whether it be through therapy, self-help books, this program, etc... and it's well documented that anti-depressants work best in conjunction with the above, especially therapy. Exercise plays a big part , as well as what we eat too. Many , many people could not function without the medicines that we have today!

I've been on so many different medications throughout time for this. Though some have allowed me to not have panic attacks AS OFTEN, none of them ever seem to assist in the matter of depression. Which in a way kind of gladdens me. Weird? I know. Reason for that being, that I can conquer this depression on my own through patience and effort. Every one of us thinks, feels, and reacts different from the next person. The differences in all of us CAN. and tend to add a variety of beauty to the world.

This was on Global The National last night and definitely caught my attention.
First off the study didnt reflect the benefits over time they simply relected the first weeks on the medication, we all know they take time.
I have been on two different SSRIs and going on my third now. They work for me it just is the side effects of each im working out. Whether I fall into the 'severly' depressed column as they noted seems to work on those people, Im not sure.. perhaps thats the key- people who really suffer from severe depression it works, those mild or are 'faking' it doesnt work. Many people confuse other symptoms and feelings for depression, of course the med wouldnt work on these people- perhaps we need a better system of diagnosing people with this disorder?
Thanks for the info! Ive been searching for it all morning and there it was here!

Maeggie- I think we do need a better system of diagnosing. And I think a lot of the doctors are sometimes too quick to tell something they are suffering from depression when sometimes they are just having a really bad day. Who doesn't sometimes? I've had a few so called qualified diagnostic tests done and later on thought "God, why did I say that? I'm fine now." Their criteria seems to be that if you've been feeling this way for two weeks there is something wrong. Two weeks?? Who bounces back from setbacks, deaths, crises, etc. in two weeks?
HI Mary.
I completely agree with you! I had another horrible doctors appointment yesterday. I just cant seem to find a good one. Im constantly searching for knowledge and good advice from everywhere but the source we are supposed to rely. Horrible system. I am Canadian so its free but i would rather pay for good care directly! Thanks for your comments!
