I think that excess adrenaline is my absolute worst symptom right now. This afternoon I had a doctor's appt. and all morning I just felt like there were "chemicals" running all through my body. I was so uncomfortable. And...being in the waiting room was pure torture.

Tomorrow afternoon I have to go back for a test. Here we go again.

Can anyone relate to the anticipatory adrenaline. It is so scary to me and I know it was the cause of my high blood pressure.

Suzie - At the very onset of the adrenalin, know that it is your thoughts that are creating it.

Use: Thought stoppage. (Even if you don't know what your thoughts are at that moment.) Shout STOP in your head or out loud if you are alone.

Start your calm breath, and use this calm breath exercise the whole time. Breathe in, hold for 4, exhale slowly through pursed lips. Do this the whole time. You'll notice the adrenalin subside.

Put your attention on something else. Count backward from 100-10. Humm a tune. Whistle softly, sing a song. Bring a small rubber ball with and squeeze it gently and keep your attention on this action. Journal while you are waiting.

But, besure to use your calm breath. Do it slowly and as often as necessary. When you feel the adrenalin arise do your calm breath again.

Pat yourself on the back for doing a great job. I personally don't know anyone who likes going to a doctor's office.

Thank you. I'm going to try that today (all day probably!)

HI Shaky Susie,
I can relate major big-time to your anticipatory anxiety, especially when it comes to doctors/dentists. I am so glad you asked about it, so that I could share in Boon's excellent advice. I am going to try his advice the next time I have to go to the doctor (which is in two weeks!). My blood pressure skyrockets as well---all because of the scary thoughts running through our minds. Please let us know how you did! GOOD LUCK!
